Hello gents, Have been gone a while, since I was planning a trip to Warsaw to visit my mother, who was in a hospital after taking a fall a few weeks back. Stubborn woman didn't want to go to the hospital till weeks after the fall, but after my sister and I realised she wasn't exactly truthful about her healing progress, she was admitted. Sadly, I didn't make it in time and she passed, a day before I was scheduled to leave. That changed everything and my trip became a obstacle course of paperwork and arrangements. She was finally laid to rest yesterday, and is reunited with my dad at the family plot. The task of at least partially clearing the house was a daunting one- my parents were diplomats and spent long stints in different parts of the world. Their collections of art, furniture, statues and antiques was large and added to that was their parents pre war China, crystals and furniture. So, tough few days. I'm back now. In the process I brought back pocket watches that belonged to both my grandfathers. (Both pre war, I imagine, as one of my Grandfathers passed in 1946) Also, In my garbage drawer found my old Omax, which was my first digital circa 1979, before moving one to a Casio. Also found a page from a magazine with my dad's ad for luggage. He was wearing a Seiko A158 that I still have. The company thought he had a look of a sea captain and took some test shots. This is the one they picked. So, off topic, but some watch and Seiko connection. I'm also adding a photo of my mom. Thanks for reading. Helps me a lot to share this. Warm regards to all. Rob

Condolences.
Always a rough time losing parents, made even harder by distance.

Sorry to read your news, never easy. It sounds like they had very interesting lives which can be a comfort of sorts, although probably too soon to feel that way yet. And they were right about your Dad, he does look like a Sea-Captain! The pocket watches are very nice, can't quite see on my screen but is the one on the left a Longines?

Sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom and now the extra ordeal. Those of us who have been through the same can understand and I wish you well. Plus the distance makes it all the harder. You and I are both in NJ but we only had to deal with going to Florida to wrap up everything which was more than enough. Having a home to clear and such all the way away in Poland, I can only imagine what that entails. Stay positive and remember all the good times.
The photos are wonderful and very uplifting. Love your Dad's photos with his Seiko that is extremely special.
My best to you and your family in these difficult times.

Hey Rob . . . very sorry to hear of your loss. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
I couldn't help but notice the strong resemblance you share with your Dad. Mom was quite pretty in her day. Really glad that you were able to get your Dad's pocket watches. They are lovely.

Sorry for your loss and the difficult time you had when 'home'.
Your dad was a devilishly handsome dude! Your mom had the beauty of the girl next door.
I'm sure you will miss them always but it will get easier with time.
Thanks for sharing with us.

On the left us indeed a Longines. It winds and runs but can't set the time. The Movado runs as well, no problems setting the time- accurate too. Have no clue when they were serviced. Rob

Rob Pocket watches are normally pretty easy to sort out if they are running - it means the balance staff and other important and easily broken bits are normally good. And the parts are so much bigger and easier to handle they're a doddle compared to Seiko's. Well, mostly they are.
