Is this piece legit? I bought it and posted a pict in a Facebook group and someone said this model should not have a black dial. Someone else provided me picts of advertisements from legit Asian dealers that show this with a black dial. The model is 5245-6000 and it's SN is 27XXXX. Anyone have insight into whether this is a redial or could be original color vs the typical white dial?

The fact that your example has white hands/indices means that it's most likely legitimate. The crappy black re-dials are usually painted-over white dials, which still have black hands-indices. Everything thing about it, including the printing, looks legit to me. Awesome find!

Here's another black dial example in near NOS condition that sold this past summer. If you look at your dial vs the dial on this example, everything checks out. I actually bid on this one but the price got too crazy. I already have a white linen dial example in great condition so I don't need a black one as well. page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/410889172

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. Is this a linen dial? I know, probably dumb question. I was drawn to this piece as it was listed as a 1972 watch and I was looking for a birth year piece. Well, I got that and then found out via the Seiko SN nomenclature that it's not only birth year but birth month for me. That was the cherry on the top. Now to get the crown working properly. Winds very hard, date change is rough but changing time is smooth. It's also in need of a regulation. It was really off and I found it was magnetized. Ran that across my demagnetizer and now it's about +10 sec/day. Still could be tighter but the crown issue is more worrisome. Also assuming you read Japanese as I can't get the page to work through Google Translate.

Also assuming you read Japanese as I can't get the page to work through Google Translate. The dial looks to be matt black so it's not a linen dial. Linen dials have a definite 'cloth' texture to them. Chances are that getting the crown working will require a full service. There is the off chance that it is just a rock hard gasket on the stem; check that first. Take the movement out of the watch then put the stem/crown back in and see if it is still hard to turn. If so, it's the gasket otherwise a service is indicated.

Thanks. But a question on the gasket. If it's the gasket, wouldn't that impact turning the crown in any position? It's hard to turn pushed in and in position 1. In position 2 (time change), it moves freely.

A linen dial is a textured off-white dial. Yours is a black dial.
As said above, it sounds like yours needs a service. Definitely have it checked out if the crown is becoming impossible to wind.
