I thought there were 2 types of case: the early notched case and the subsequent unnotched case.
But I've just got hold of two 6139-6002s, (1973 and 1975), they are both "unnotched", but they are different (slightly). So are there more than 2 types?

Any pics you can provide? I would imagine there might be slight differences depending on years of production and locations as well, different machines, serviced, adjusted?(the machines) Just trying to think logical, not anything scientific.

I know I've seen some differences in lug hole locations between cases, and I've heard of certain bezels not being compatible with other era bezels.

Not that this pertains to your 1973 and 1975 cases, but the early Pogue cases machined to fit the 6139A are different from the 6139B version due to the difference in movement height. That's why the different rotating inner bezel hold downs are different thickness too.
Aside from notched vs non-notched, they are supposed to be pretty much the same. When Larry B. = Uncle Seiko was rolling out his solid end links he noted they fit some cases but not others. It seems unlikely a hefty Pogue lug would be whacked hard enough to bend it, but I guess it could in rare abuse situations, but the point being the Seiko factory tolerances varies in the lug area.

A while back and in another world (forum) a well versed member pointed out some very slight differences with genuine 6309-7040/49 cases. To the trained eye and if you only had one to hand you just would not have known.

The difference is less apparent in the photos than in the flesh.
The case on the right is visibly wider than that on the left. When I measured it it turned out to be 41.3mm wide, compared to 40.9 on the left. At first I thought this might be down to one having been polished and the other not, but on examination it's the wider case that shows signs of having been polished!
In the last photo you can see the different sizes of the "bulges" where the pushers go.
