Hi All!
New member here, but an not a novice when it comes to watches (or other EDC gear). I have only a few functional watches, but have a lot of project watches in various stats of mod or restoration. I buy non-functional watches from the auction sites and resell them after a thorough cleaning and refurbishment. This is usually just a new crystal and battery, though some have required new movements. I have not yet tried my hand at working on automatic watches, but picked up an older Seiko 17 jewel railroad watch to get started.
I prefer pilot and dive style watches with a good contrast between the hands and dials, and have sold most of my watches that didn't fit this criteria. My budget and preference for watches with a case size of 42 - 45mm narrows the field a bit and prevents me from going crazy. I love most of the big case Seiko watches, and have a modified Seiko 7002 that I will share some time in the future. My other daily is a TW Steel TW408. I have a Timex Iron Man that I wear when I do construction projects or yard work, and a few other watches that are simply ignored and sit in drawers. While I have a long wish list of watches, I am exceedingly selective based on quality and price, and buy all of my watches used. I am still on the look-out for a GoodWill or bargain shop score that I can brag about. Until then, I'll do my daily rounds through the auction sites.
In addition to watches, I am deep into flashlights. I build, modify and repair high end flashlights. With the EDC community being so intertwined, that is how I ended up here.
