Thoughts on the brand? I see a lot of these in the street markets in Hong Kong, but mostly the lower end stuff popular in China. I've been lusting after a decent vintage Sherpa for a long time, but can never seem to find a decent model at a decent price. I'm patient, and I keep checking the mom and pop shops here...

Hi. Good luck finding a Sherpa in good condition at a low price. Hope you are quite young as this could that a lifetime. They also made a model called Supertest with a chronometer grade top top level movement. I prefer it to the Sherpa. They went through the full range,in house movements to brought in ebauche. There is a huge amount of info on the web and suggest you spent a few days reading it. The later stuff made under Asian own ship is not as good.Cheers Phil
Great brand with a few fascinating watches!! It is worth purchasing the book "Time for a change" Enicar and stay away from watches that come from India/China etc

Yeah, I'm not looking for or expecting a low price, just a decent price (whatever that means - it's objective, right?). At this point, I've had trouble finding one in fair shape at any price point. I'll get one. It will happen. Just a matter of time...

Hi Pete. As you probably know AR2167 is ETA 2789-1, a very good movement. AR 160 is a higher beat version of AR140. The 160 was developed into more complicated versions including the 167 auto. The interesting bit here is that the 167 was of high enough quality to become the base movement of Chronoswiss. Cheers Phil

I may have known that at some point but have forgotten it
Which reminds me I have a 2789-1 in a drawer somewhere that needs a setting lever and a good service. I would make a wonderful motor for a watch as it was originally adjusted to 6 positions plus temperature. It may even have been a chronometer. The original but ugly case was a Candino. Still have it all.
That is really nice. I've been looking for a Guide MKIII because that design is my personal favorite, but I haven't been able to find one in decent shape at any price point. They (Enicars) do come up here in Hong Kong on occasion, and I'd be inclined to pick up something like what you've got if the stars aligned properly. Thanks for sharing.
