This thread is dizzying and reaffirms why I hate government, politicians, and lawyers.

"Currently Japan Post are not shipping any international mail." I've just bought from YJ via Buyee, and expected a delay on shipping, but there has been no delay and the package is on its way - to the UK. On the Buyee site there are lists of countries where shipping is delayed, but they did not include the UK, or the USA I think. I'm in the US. My package has been in Tokyo since March 31st. Tracking now shows my package is with customs in the UK. I was beginning to think that it was delayed in Japan since it's usually two days or so to get to the UK once it's been shipped by Buyee, and this time it has been 6 days. I guess it all depends whether or not any aircraft are flying to your home country, if shipping hasn't been suspended altogether of course.

This from UNDONE took forever and a day to get here from HK but no issues with paying any fees or anything. Tracking did show it sitting in customs for a while... It could be the Ti case but I was underwhelmed, which is fine because it wasn't for me, but my son, who seems to dig it. As for Jewel count costing more, the more jewels there are, I was under the impression that Swiss watches started to stamp movements UNADJUSTED, was to skirt some protectionist regulation, that they were infact still adjusted movements keeping awesome time...

Well, the watches arrived yesterday, and I guess all is well.
I am a little wiser, and my wallet is a little lighter. Can't be too mad at Uncle Sam about the customs fees, though...the same day I paid them he sent me a $1,200 'Corona bonus'.

This is strange...and the opposite of my experiences using DHL.
I have used them three different times for the delivery of watch straps from Fin Watch Straps in Helsinki, Finland.
The orders ranged in value from $250.00 to $450.00 USD....no hang ups in Customs....no fees...not a penny.
From Helsinki to Missouri in only three days...never had a problem of any kind with DHL.
Maybe I’m just lucky?

Luckily I didn't pay for "fast" shipping..

I am a little wiser, and my wallet is a little lighter. Can't be too mad at Uncle Sam about the customs fees, though...the same day I paid them he sent me a $1,200 'Corona bonus'. So what did you actually buy?
Let's see...
-A gorgeous black 8F35 diver with all the boxes and papers -A really nice orange 7548 on original strap -A nice titanium 7T42 -A black 5M42 SUS, nearly unused in it's box -Two lots of four parts watches (7546, 8F32, 5M42, a really nice '89 Alba Aqua Gear diver, etc) -A 5M42-0E10 'Spirit' to steal a link from -And this!
It is a Seiko S-911 battery tester! I have never seen one of these before, and apparently the internet hasn't, either. I was the only bidder, and it cost me about $12. I was hoping it actually worked because I hate dragging my Seiko S-831 MultiTester out to check batteries. With this, you just pop a battery into the side (positive side down), press the blue button, and watch the needle.
This apparently came out of an old watch and clock shop in Japan. I suspect that it has tested THOUSANDS of batteries judging by the wear on the button. The pics are after I cleaned it up...it was pretty grubby when I got it. I read the back using Google Translate, and there are two scales: one for 1.35v batteries and one for 1.55v batteries. The scales are yellow and green now, but they were originally red and green. The red has faded to yellow.
The back says this was actually produced for Seiko by...Sony! I actually expected it to be quite a bit bigger than it is, but it is only about an inch tall and has a footprint smaller than a playing card.
And yes...it still works!

I was surprised not only by the customs hangup, but how seemingly unprepared DHL was to deal with it. I literally spent a week going between three different DHL representatives before it was cleared.
Maybe I am just unlucky?

One thing I will give DHL...they are faster than EMS. The cost difference at the outset was only $2.00...$59 for EMS, $61 for DHL. This is one of the reasons I decided to try it. Of course, that turned into a $173 difference by the time it was said and done.
A package I had shipped from Tokyo on the 8th was scheduled to have been at my house in Olympia, Washington, USA on the 10th had it not gotten hung up in customs. That is pretty damned fast though it likely was still the 7th here!

I have mixed feelings about DHL. I bought a nice 6138-0030 from Venezuela a while back. Shipping was included and after it was all said and done I figured the seller had a relative working for DHL. I had the watch in 1 day with no extra fees!
On the other hand, I opened an account with DHL to import + export items because they supposedly hand carry items through customs and it's faster. Before I even had a chance to use the service my account got Hacked and I was charged for some sort of shipment from China to Utah. Then I had to jump through all sorts of hoops and fill out forms to dispute the charges. Like I've got time for that! Needless to say I canceled my account.
That battery tester is Cool! What is the slot used for testing?

Honestly, I have no idea. Seems to be two slots, actually. A shallow one and a deeper one?

Gotta keep those federal employees in customs in a job. That's why we can't automate all of this. If it's the post office though, totally cool. Third party carriers, sorry guys, you need to do all this crap. Man, has this been a pain in the ass.
So I submitted the completed 'worksheets'. Then I was told by the lady named Amanda who was handling my case out of the DHL office in Kentucky that the invoice needed to be revised, as the one the seller had included with the package wasn't specific enough. I was told I would have to do the worksheets over again...for reasons that mystified me...as they would say the exact same thing. Then I was transferred to another person named Benjamin at DHL in Arizona to handle my case.
I was then unceremoniously transferred BACK to Amanda!
Now, I have been transferred to a THIRD person to deal with this by the name of Jean, also at DHL in Arizona. Every time I get transferred to somebody else the process seems to start over again.
This who thing is archaic and absurd. My watches haven't moved from Cincinnati, but now the DHL office in Arizona is handling this.
For fcuk's sake....

Latest update from FJ on Japan Post international shipping...
" Due to the worldwide impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, international shipments via Japan Post have been subject to disruption and delays since March 2020. At present, there are 160 countries/regions for which Japan Post has stopped accepting some or all packages.
Shipping Delays All international shipments via Japan Post are experiencing significant delays. It can currently take several weeks from us sending a parcel until it is processed and loaded onto a plane for shipment.
Due to the toll on the postal system, there has been an increase in missing parcels and other shipping issues. We therefore strongly recommend that users opt for a tracked shipping method at this time. "
...
" * Japan Post is returning shipments sent by suspended shipping methods before the suspension was announced. These are marked with the status "Returned to Sender" on the Japan Post tracking page. We will notify users via email once the parcel is returned to our distribution center. * We are seeing delays of up to several weeks between Japan Post marking the parcel as "Returned to Sender" and the parcel actually being delivered back to us.
Tracking Service & Delivery Schedule Japan Post has announced that although they are making every effort to process international parcels as quickly as possible, they are seeing unprecedented delays in parcel deliveries. Due to the scale of the disruption, they are not able to provide any detailed shipping status updates or delivery timelines for parcels. This means that we unfortunately cannot answer inquiries about delivery time or shipping status.
We thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the current shipping situation. "

I am not feeling quite as bad about my DHL fiasco now. At least my watches are here.
