Looks like an excellent project.
These watches are scarce in good condition but not rare by any means. The case back is just the one that comes with the watch and 6000 refer to the calibre. This one has the 6001(date) automatic that was a precursor to the stripped down 8200 series.
I think the 6000 series movements are comparable to the Seiko 6300 series in terms of design and build quality.
I haven't noticed any AM parts for these watches.

The reason I started getting concerned about the dial is that I was also watching another one (loose crown tube, pass) and the CITIZEN was different, didn't know if there was a real one or a fake one here

Case back is correct, movement number is correct (6001) and dial with that style of 'Citizen' and red date wheel is also right (see here, scroll down to the 150m divers for the 62-6198 model sweep-hand.org/citizens-vintage-divers-1962-to-1980/). Dial number on mine is 6000 - 602231, found right at the bottom of the dial. There have been some bezel inserts and crystals on eBay, made to the original specs, from 'Seikomania' but he doesn't have any at the moment. Stephen

Just noticed that your project watch dial is not marked 'water resistant' and '21 Jewels' / 150m look larger than they should be. So it could be a re-finished dial. I'll check my reference pics to see if any are marked like yours.

The seller sold as "all original" so if the dial isn't original, then it's going back. Thanks for any info on this, hopefully it's correct.

And Duncan was the owner of that - we need to get him in here!
Thanks for taking the time to research this, I appreciate it. The watch was sold as a 1974 - how is that determined?

First three digits of the serial number - '401' = January 1974.

Nice project you've found! The dial looks spot on to me, I can just about make out the dial code below the 6 o'clock marker, compare it with mine: It's got the red date wheel and the "6000" caseback which is a bonus, 62-6198's with "CITIZEN WATCH CO" instead of the 6000 and a black date wheel are a lot more common. The hands are correct, with the wide style mercedes hand and the meatball on the end of the seconds hand, but they may have been relumed at some stage though as they usually match the dial lume. The movement is correct and looks to be in good order (no dodgy screw heads or wear marks). You can read about replacing the crystal and insert here: www.thewatchsite.com/21-japanese-watch-discussion-forum/40561-citizen-62-6198-finished.htmlAll in all a very nice find, congratulations!

thanks! All great information! Where would I go about locating a new crystal and insert? The only place I know for the inserts is seikomania on eBay, but I haven't seen him selling any for a while. The crystals are eyewateringly difficult to source, I really have no clue where to find one. I was lucky as when I bought my watch it came with a NOS crystal. I have heard that the 320W10GN (6105's) fits and looks pretty similar but it isn't as tall as the citizens. If you have one in the parts drawer it would be interesting to see if it does. If seikomania doesn't get any inserts in stock in the future I may be able to help, my watch came with 2 replacement inserts and I passed the spare on to a fellow collector but not sure he's used it yet.

Great watches Spencer, NOS crystals are non existent and Bezel inserts are the same although I do have an angle on both with a forum member not far from me I can ring him in the morning and ask if he has them.
Cheers Mark

Nice! That's one of the Citizens that I've had my eye out for.

VERY nice and to be honest.... I'm quite envious as I have wanted one of those for the longest time. Only problem is as others have mentioned........ finding parts for those Vintage Citizens is or can be impossible! That's why I have never bought one thus far.

Well, it came in. Everything is ducky except that the two most important parts will need to be sourced: crystal and insert.
