Hi everyone, I'm completely fall in love with this SEIKO Laurel Alpinist White dial 14041 ... this patina sums up on its own all the imaginary & the poetry of the Japanese Alps (Yama-otoko) ...completely in harmony with its purpose Did you recognize the french map in the center?π It looks like a photo of the Alps from a plane, isn't it? thespringbar.com/blogs/guides/the-ultimate-seiko-alpinist-collectors-guide/

It would be much too much for my taste. It looks like an aerial shot of a bombsite. But wait...I thought all your watches were mint, or at the very least, NOS, Bert?

Aloha Sir, Not that one I like a lot and I would just let it alone and even use it as a conversation Piece too. When asked about I am sure it can be explained to some one else and they might see its beauty. One has to have a Imagination as to looking at it but it is a original yet so why not Sir.... 7dfe79adc2f0 . Enjoy it at it's most too whenever you need to use it. I would own that one myself I had it.

Strangely attractive that one Bertrand. Not entirely to my personal taste if Iβm honest but it does have something about it.

I don't know Bertrand that's a little far gone for me. I see corrosion not patina. That said I certainly respect that you like it so more power to you. Like all things with watches what matters is what you like. This is the most patina'd I can wear, a J13045 gone tropical but not otherwise degraded:

It is the sign of time. Handsome or ugly. As an alternative.

I like it. These are really hard to find in any condition, and they are priced accordingly!

Ouch! Don't know about patina
On the Rolex forum that would be a rare, evenly aged "celestial" finish caused by prolonged exposure to a certain atmospheric salt environment found in few places around the globe.
In other words, it's been trashed by water damage.
If one likes vomit on their watch dial I guess. It's in the eye of the beholder.

I just love that watch, early Alpinists are thin on the ground and with the "French twist" it'll suit you I've a few patina watches but this Silverwave is my favourite.

I'd wear it but what happened to the "Seiko" on the dial?
I have a late 60's 66 handwind that looks mint other than the toning / patina on dial.
Unfortunately it is one of the 3, now 2 (since I found my Dynamic tonight) watches I know I have but can't find

OK OK OK Bertand I am seeing the France in the dial ! Kind of like when you look up at a cloud and see your dog or a face that maybe is Jesus or even a rabbit ?
So NOW I see your Mother France - to which I tip my hat to you and say ENJOY!

Had a good laugh over this one. It is quite incredible the lengths that a few articulate, long-winded members of other forums will go to in order to paint water damage and corrosion in a positive light. The dichotomy between the different collecting communities is also surprising to me. Seems like the vintage Seiko community primarily likes untouched dials with very few blemishes save for a bit of UV-induced fading or darkening, whereas Rolex collectors love to wax poetic about a dial that looks like it's been placed at the bottom of a latrine in the men's bathroom of a dive bar for the last 50 years (I hear cheap beer piss produces a quite unique patina).

To be honest, I saw the french map after the Auction, and I probablymany othersthingsto discover ππ...so i bought it only for the patina or oxydation ,but the watch is working AT +40 S/D so I think it will be OK after a service .
