It's said that prototypes were made. The company that made the dials for Daini Seikosha confirmed so from their records, but as usual, Seiko themselves say that they don't have any records, drawings, or knowledge of these watches. Of course, the predecessor of the King Seiko was the Cronos, which has a Self-Dater version, which was the name that Seiko used in the early 1960s before switching to Calendar in the mid-1960s. I've seen a photo of a 44 200 version of the dial based on the 44-2000 as well. I've heard that there are photos of a complete watch on someone's Instagram, but that person's Instagram profile was set to private, and since I don't use Instagram, I couldn't see them, so I don't know which version it was. I think I heard of that a couple of years ago now, so I can't remember whose Instagram that was. Anthony's seen a complete watch of this 44 999 version in Japan, as well.
