I've seen one or two similar to this but not this exact model. The movement looks very familiar. What is the stamping just to the left of the balance wheel?
I have a feeling this is a good movement.
As far as I know, Helbros was a fairly good brand with many of their offerings being mid tier.
With a fresh bezel insert and a service; this watch should sell for a lot more than you paid for that lot chinathumbsup.gif

PUW 1563 from early - mid '70s. Decent German made (Pforzheimer Uhrenwerke) auto movement which was based on the PUW 560 manual wind. There were also proper "jump hour" digital versions of the 560 and 1561 (same movement but date only) which were used in a lot of the better quality mechanical digitals of the era. Parts availability is still excellent - everything bar the centre wheel can be got off the shelf. Sadly, the watch as a whole is probably so far gone that it's only fit for scrap. As a fully licenced scrap watch facility under the relevant Waste Management regs, and as a special favour to a fellow Wrist Sushi member, I'll be happy to dispose of it FOC for you if you'd like to post it to me

Yup, it's a PUW 1563, running strong. Nice smooth-shaft winding weight means the winding is almost undetectable. I did a ton of digging last night and found a lot of inserts - I'm just waiting to find out dimensions on some of the the ones I've found. In the process of finding the correct insert, I figured out what this watch is a copy of, at least the case. A Tudor Submariner. Look:

FFS!! Why is it one of us could find a watch, say a "Kif-anica with a doodle-a-flp movemnet, only made for 8 mins on a leap year, in Bamako Mali, West Africa." And Chris will not only have one, But Chrisi will have take an Ace photo of it!! Damn!! Love that watch buddy, just drooling over the cream-a-lishus lume!!

It's got some serious funk, but also some issues. The movement is fine, but the way the internal movement holders work is all jacked up, by design and by age. The dial-holding ring is plastic and has shrunk. Also, the way it's designed it doesn't actually support the movement against the underside of the front of the watch. The movement-holder ring is a really weird fit that is both too tight and too loose. Basically, someone didn't do a very good job designing this case to fit around this fine movement.

Excellent find, indeed. And that "Very accurate" movement made me excited. I love accuracy and accurate movements very much.
Thank you for sharing, Comrades . . .

Serdal Thanks Captain - I've got the internal system figured out now, and am just working on fitting an insert that has the correct matching numbering to the rotating ring.

Will do! Surprisingly, the cornflower blue dial is much better looking under a new crystal. Under the old one it looked sort of crappy and cheesy, but it sort of pops under a new one. The insert is proving to be a real issue, but I have a plan B.

Actually, after a ton of work, more people than just our own DonCiccio might like this baby. After a service the movwment is putting out a jaw-dropping 280-300 and up amplitude - amazing. I still have a small issue with the dial holding ring in that it's made of that kind of old-school plastic that shrinks with time, and also one of the two dial feet are missing. Judicious use of dial dots is helping us here. The insert is vintage and matches what was there originally. The tropic strap claims that it is Swiss-made - who knows but it's in great shape and fits the lugs perfectly.
