This for me today, and I’m off to the proper office which will be a nice change.

My twin nieces turn 10 today, so it will be party time this evening. Until then, I have yard work to do. That means putting on my longtime 'beater watch'...this '74 0903-7019. I have relegated many other watches in my collection to 'beater' status over the years, but this 0903 is what I always end up actually putting on to change the oil, mow the lawn, clean the gutters, etc.
I bought this watch for lunch money...literally...around 15 years ago. I got it from the original owner, who bought it at an Ohio jewelry store in July, 1975 according to the included warranty card. It didn't run when I got it, so it went in a drawer for about 10 years. Sometime around 2015, I finally decided to see if I could get it going.
One thing I do remember about the watch was that it was caked with a thick, sticky, brownish-yellow goop. It took quite a long time to get it all cleaned out of the nooks and crannies. I should have asked the owner if he happened to work in a molasses factory or something! The movement would not keep time, but the seconds hand would 'twitch'. This indicates good electronics and a mechanical problem, most likely gummed up pivots. I took the trainwheel bridge off, cleaned it in alcohol, lubed the pivots, and reassembled it.
It has been keeping great time for the last five years. Knowing what it was going to be used for I went ahead and replaced the gaskets. The 0903 isn't a very pretty or glamorous movement, but it is robust and long-lasting. When new, they were affordable...but not cheap.

This one still in need of a service and a new crystal. Unfortunately all my parts boxes are filled with parts from other projects, so can't start with this one and can't finish the projects as parts are missing. Should I buy more boxes?

The doorbell just rang. There was the postman and handed over a package from Zenmarket (took less than two weeks this time). That'll be at least ten more watches that need a service. What a misery...

Loaner. Totally unnecessary but so cool complication on a mechanical watch...
