cdgod announced we missed our anniversary a few days ago and it usually marks our WRUW challenge. At the same time we have been all in different states of chaos and stress in different parts of the world. 2020 in Australia started with fire followed by flood, then by plague. Everyone’s going through their own stress and uncertainty. I am actually quite concerned for the Sushi friends in the States and other areas where their country is divided in there response and support to various crisis’ developing. For this reason and because I have had a lot to be glad for over the past few weeks, I should share something in response. (I’ve also had some pretty significant lows but everything worked out) tritto started me thinking following a generous gift he shared with me I would like to pay forward the first ever solar powered analog watch- The Citizen Crystron Solar It’s currently using a standard cell battery but there is nothing stopping it’s conversion to a capacitor. The only rules are- I’d like to see the winner continue to follow the pay it forward tradition. I was going to suggest something to do with the number 7 to commemorate the years of Sushi. I’ve decided against it To be in it- I just need your user name and you need to have a minimum post to be able to use the message system. Whatever that is. It will be likely a bingo number draw. I would like as many people who canto jot down their favorite post or thread over the past 7 years. You have a week. I’ll end it next Saturday. Reply to this thread to be in it.

This is really thoughtful of you Camrok, and I'd love to put my hat in the ring - I actually have one of the commemorative solar reissues from Citizen coming soon (the all black version) but have yet to find one of the originals in nice enough shape to go after, so it would fill a missing spot in my collection! As to favorite threads, there are so many, but the one that jumps to mind is Anthony's sleuthing post where he corrected the collective misinformed belief of all of us that the 62mas came on a waffle strap, tracking down a correct original tropic and donating it to the Seiko museum. It's here. There is so much amazing/right in that thread, and all credit goes to Anthony's amazing work, but I think it's pretty representative of the best that these forums can do for those of us that are obsessive about this hobby.

First entry bbilford83 I’m looking forward to the threads that get revived. I’ll have a look for my own faves and start tagging some of the people involved.

Thanks Cam! REALLY nice gesture. And big kudos to Tritto/Tristan for the gifting to you in the first place.
I won't submit this as my favorite thread but one of my favorite posts ever was when you got down into a herd of Eastern Grey kangaroos during a WS Challlenge ! Simply amazing !

I was 14 days late to the party.
Spencer messaged me on TOF on day 1 but I had enough hobbies and other forums to visit everyday that I passed it off.
When I got caught up I checked WS out and ##100 (that's hashtag number 100 since the millennials phuked up letters and runes for the rest of us educated folks)
Still fits on the back of a Jersey if need be
'Member?
I remember the old days when it felt like 5 regulars sitting at the bar where everyone knew each other by name and were shooting the shit while there were a few strangers lurking sitting at the tables in the background listening in to the the stories the regulars were telling.
Slowly the number sitting at the bar grew and turned into 10 or 20 and so on.
Back then there was the World Traveler thread when you knew the guy "virtually" sitting next to you at the bar wouldn't steal your watch if you sent it to him (not that in the today's masses their aren't a 99% trustworthy members if we did it again)
My favorite thread was the World Traveler.
I may have shared too much and may have posted some "fake news" in case anyone one was trying to find me
OK it was all real and if I end up somewhere I will blame everyone here til the day I die
As someone else here posted in the past they don't do myfacespacepagebook social media and this is their online equivalent.
Same here.
Back on topic the World Traveler thread let everyone get to know the face and personality behind the name better and relate better to other member who participated (or maybe drove them away when they realized you were crazy)
While it is great that the forum has grown to what I hope the founders had envisioned and has provided knowledge and help and support to those who came looking or stumbled upon this place I have to admit I miss the old days.
I hereby enter my name into the drawing and if I win I pass my prize to the next in line.

I do not know if I have enough posts to enter or not but I thought I would look through the Japanese discussion forum and see if anything caught my eye.
Well, I came across this thread WOW!
In my short time here, I have seen a lot of sharing and generosity but this thread was way beyond anything I have seen yet.
Mr Mikeyt is a very nice man to give away all those beautiful watches
I am curious, who is 'deleted' and what kind of a login is that?

jennie it is a generous group and each year we usually try to get a bit creative with a competition.
cdgod usually has a hand in the planning or runs the majority of it. He has rightly pointed out that the forum has grown significantly in the last few years and some things have ultimately changed. That world traveler thread and tritto experience at a day surgery was a particular interesting few posts.
I’m glad this has started to gain momentum and I will start to pop usernames and numbers in a database to make drawing this thing a bit easier.
hibeat that kangaroo adventure was a bit hairy in hindsight.

My favourite thread is this one, which unfortunately reads pretty crap now as all the images siralan took are missing wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/8953/6139-pulsations-back-serviceAt the time, the inner workings of a 6139 movement were mind-blowing to me. I hadn’t dared delve into a watch movement and hadn’t even done anything like change a crystal - how things have moved on... Seeing the pictures of my late father-in-laws watch being brought back to life by Simon (an absolute master of his craft) was something really special.

I was thinking of when you turned up with your father-in-law's pulsations, leffemonster. I guess I'll have to think further.

Speaking of 6139-6020’s I think this is one of my all time favorite thread- The pulsation aka donut speed timer watch. hibeat you started a wave of photos and I will likely know this as the DST (Donut Speed Timer) over the pulsation from now on. wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/12939

It is absolutely a doughnut timer and not a pulsations. That is WS lore. My favourite thread? So many to choose from. The world traveller thread is what made me join after I’d stumbled across WS while googling eBay sellers to avoid. I recognised the insanity and it made me want to be part of this place. Every one of the anniversary threads are awesome. But for one of my faves I’m going to go back to the restoration challenge started by GuyJ , that thread got so many of us on the path to servicing and made me realise that siralan was as good as he is. (On my phone so I’ll have to try and link tomorrow in an edit) *edit* Here's the link Restoration Challenge Parent Thread but there are lots of threads to look at for individual entries, so do a search for "Restoration Challenge" and you should find them. And of course how could I have passed over this thread too: World Diver Challenge
A great fun thread that got my son involved too and ended with him christening The Big Banana! Hope to restart that one at some point when the world is somewhat back to normal.

Well done Cam. That is a great prize- I have a couple of those - and so I won’t enter to win the prize. The threads you have started are amongst my favourites - the Quartz Accuracy thread and the World Diver thread. The other one that sticks in my mind is the one about the Imperial VFA/Grand Seiko. But I'll have to go for the World Diver: wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/15315/world-diver-challenge

My thought was to acknowledge all the great walk throughs that have inspired me to have a crack myself. Some that spring to mind are one by Pip tackling a bellmatic, Guy doing a 7548, Meanoldmanning's ETA 6497 and an H558 I think, Small's Caravelle. Each time I took on a new movement I had something to pore over and learn from. While I was at it, I thought I'd hunt out my very first thread here - asking for advice on a 6309-7040 that I'd been offered. Despite the terrible photos, members were able to tell me that it was full of AM parts. I went to my profile and somehow I have amassed 5080 posts!

tritto and many others have made very valid references to threads that advance their watch making. The support in this community is phenomenal. Let me share one fine example of what can happen when you mistype- it was supposed to say “digging” wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/18883Thank you pip For pointing it out so eloquently

Perhaps you were the one who compiled various source materials (including Nick's posts) into an omnibus 4006 service guide, pip. Either way, I wouldn't have tackled some dial-side work without it.

Thanks Cam for starting this thread and offering the watch as a prize. I will pass to the next participant if I am selected as I have enough watches (getting evil glares from wife. But I did want to point to one my favorite threads which exemplifies the generous sharing of knowledge on WS. And because it's on the topic of 6139 - I bought my blue Pogue here and stayed because of the great folks on this board. wristsushi.proboards.com/thread/410/wrist-sushi-pogue-thread
