This may just be a weird coincidence, but does anyone know of any gaps in 6309-704X production? I've been looking for months for an August 1980 one as a 40th birthday gift for my brother and the closest I've come is July and a single reference to August in somebody's post (without photos to confirm it, if memory serves). Tons from '79 and '81, but 1980 examples seem generally to be pretty uncommon...any info much appreciated!

Without adding any specific 6309 diver information, I can say Seiko often took months off, singly or in blocks, in production all over their product line.
So if in fact you find there never was an August 1980 it would not be that strange.

Ugh, I had never even considered the possibility before. Although I have found a couple more references since posting, so maybe all is not lost? Thanks for the info!

I have this. It appeared on GT and within 20 miles so I zipped along and bought it. Following a full refurb, inc DM jeweling, its in very nice condition.

Nice!! So, I guess there may not be a ton but theyโre out there...so the search continues.

As a method to limit my buying, I often search only for a specific year and month. I know you can go for a long long time never seeing what you want, sometimes a year or more. Then, when you do finally find it, more show up all the time. I buy them too. My strategy doesn't always work well. Sounds good in theory.
It took me a year to find a 7548 made 19----- to go with my 19---- 6309. It did "cost" me 2 other 7548s that were too good to pass up. As I said, it's an imperfect strategy.
