It's very convenient to have the sn/date code that Seiko provides, many other makers don't have this. As many of you know, I have been carrying on a love affair with vintage Heuer's. I'd love to know how to determine the differences in the jumbo divers, therefore knowing which years they might be from. I know we have a couple guys here that can help with this, hopefully we can compile some useful info here. If I'm not mistaken, the earlier models have a different crown? The transitional models, will have the Tag Heuer signed crown. While the earlier models have the Heuer signed crown? Not like this is concrete evidence, a crown is an easy enough thing to swap out. So I guess I'm interested in knowing the other nuances, if any. Here are my two, but I'm certain more detailed pics would be necessary. I know Eddie (tedward515), can chime in on the top example.

Well the Heuer divers are rather difficult to date compared to Seiko. Without much more than having handled a bunch of them and knowing some general times when movements, cases etc where used, there isn't really a perfect guide. It is something that I have been thinking about and I know there some others in the Heuer community that have talked about it as well. There is a good guide to start with general dates based on catalogs and ref numbers at On the Dash.com, a Heuer site that started out with a focus on the dash timers and has expanded over the years to include the wristwatches. Here is the data base, the divers are about 2/3rds of the way down. www.onthedash.com/Guide/Master_Reference.php4 The top one I would date somewhere in 80 to 83. It has the earlier ESA quartz movement in the thicker jumbo case. The caseback is only marked with the ref numbers instead of having the Heuer shield. The shield was introuduced on the case back somewhere around 83 or 84. It is also true that Heuers of the mid 80's when they where sold to TAG will have a mix of Heuer/TAG Heuer parts. The second one I would place to the same period, from what I can see in the pics. That's all I can think of off the top of my head for now. Of course I'm not an expert but I will always try to answer any questions on Heuer divers or any Heuer/TAG Heuer in general. Eddie

So there were no changes in the dial text, or hands used throughout the Jumbo run?
