Hi all, I was hoping someone on here can help with some information on a pocket watch I have bought my oldest son for his 25th birthday. It is made by Seiko, and presented by the Office of the Prime Minister in Japan. It appears it would be an award of some sort, but for what, I cannot ascertain. As far as I can work out there are two types, a silver and a gold. I'm not too concerned about the value as such, more the provenance, as my son has a deep connection to Japan and I'd like to add value to the gift with more information than I currently have! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Copied from the original: - The Prime Minister's pocket watch awarded to an important citizen in 1991. Seiko - of course. Unfortunately that's all we know about this piece, but judging by its condition, the watch was hardly used. The literal translation of the writing on both box and the watch is "Award of Cabinet of Great Powers" - or Prime Ministerial Award, issued by the Prime Minister of Japan. The official Government seal of Japan consists of three Paulownia plants with a common root and 5-7-5 flowers. It dates from the 12th century when it was the official crest of the Japanese Imperial Family.

More photos of the watch would be nice.
You can upload photos to an online hosting sites and link them here.

That’s something that perhaps Anthony Kable ( akable) might know something about.

This is a 7N07-001A and they are actually extremely common. These are a standard Japanese government gift and have been offered for many years.
There is at least 15-20 of these always available on Yahoo Japan at any time. They are commonly available for around $100-$120 but I am sure you could pick up an example for less with a little patience. If you are happy to purchase one without the box and paperwork then you would be able to find this for considerably less.

Thanks all, I apologise for the lack of pics, as I was still waiting for it to arrive, AND it was a gift I didn't want to post too many... (my son is a prolific watch-forum peruser, and I didn't want to give the game away if he visited here!) It turns out these was a letter in the bottom of the box, which casts a bit more light on the gift; it appears it was given as commiseration to a representative of a company (unsure as to who that might have been though), in respect to not being able to provide some sort of level of staffing. The literal translation was a bit sketchy! Either way, the watch was mint, unused, still had the plastics on the front, reverse and crystal, and felt really nice in the hand. Well presented in a nice box, would definitely recommend as a unique gift for someone with either a pocket-watch fetish or a Japanese connection. Thanks again, in particular akable for joining the dots B
