...and it’s STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!!! I took delivery of a brand new SRPE63K1 today. Strapped it on the wrist and after a few hours noticed it had gained time. So I popped it on the timegrapher - WTF?? Looking at the movement the regulator on the balance is far along the ‘+’ side so this might explain the high rate, but I sure as hell ain’t opening it up to regulate it. How the hell did this get past quality control (rhetorical question). Needless to say I’ve contacted the AD about returning it...

Maybe it's magnetized?
That's nuts
BTW, it's my favorite Seiko 5 reference. It's the only one I like and own. Love the silver dial one. It's a total strap monster too. Once you get your hands on a normal one you'll love it.

Yeah looks like someone put it on top of some giant magnets in the delivery truck.

Well, it ain’t magnetised - the compass doesn’t budge. The AD just replied and has accepted the return, they’ll fire another one off to me when they’ve got it back.

I treated myself to a Presage Cocktail Time last year. I was surprised how quickly they must have set it up at the factory as the beat error was right out. I spent about a hour adjusting the hairspring and now it keeps great time. Shame I hate the watch so much! Must get around to flogging it before it becomes a NOS antique in my draw.

I don’t think ‘people’ set up watches from Seiko @cockroach and I don’t think they have for a long time. GS? Maybe, if it’s a higher end one. Credor? Yes, almost certainly. The rest are just done by machine nowadays.

While I certainly understand your choice to return and exchange, my gut tells me it would be easily sorted.
And YES that level out performance should never leave the factory. Bad job by Seiko.
Let us know how #2 performs for you!

Let us know how #2 performs for you! For sure Jon, I could have sorted it easily. But why should I have to? Firstly, as you say, it should never have been sent out in that state. Secondly, whipping the back off would have invalidated the warranty and if regulation wasn’t the problem then I’d have been stuck with a knacker. I haven’t heard back from the AD yet, but the return landed with them early last week. I’ll give it until the middle of the week and then chase them up.

Sacre blurt! really.... That sucks Seiko just like your shitty end links but then I reckon when you offer the range that Seiko gives you'd need a lot more workers if each watch was hand adjusted. It's a shame. Check this 6 erm.... 6..... 6something something I was working on earlier. 40 years old and giving those sort of results at pretty much every single angle you want to place it at. Aptitude was up at 256 when I checked a few minutes ago

Replacement arrived this morning. Definitely performing better than the first one.

That is a lot better than my Presage was setup from the factory. I wonder if they went through and chose the best performer they had in stock lol

The AD emailed me on Monday to advise they would get it out this week - it was sent on Wednesday so suspect they had it on test for a couple of days. As I’m not a fan of NATO straps it’ll get swapped out for a bracelet I think.
