Hi everyone
So first off, I can’t claim to be a watch guy. Well I wasn’t a watch guy anyway, and in fact I haven’t worn a watch since school days over 20 years ago. Like many of my generation, the watch gave way to having a phone in my pocket and it felt redundant.
Something changed over the Xmas break and on a whim I decided to start wearing a watch. Some quick researching lead me to automatics and the value for money of the Seiko 5 series. So I searched the watchsleuth Seiko 5 finder to find something that I liked and settled on a silver dial wth gold hands and indicators - it matches my 2 tone wedding band. Ended up buying from skywatches.
Along the way I found the Reddit group for JapaneseWatches and saw and fell for a 1970’s Seiko pillow case with crosshair dial and knew I had to have it. After a few days I found one I liked and ordered it from Chrono24 before I even had my first watch delivered.
Then I discovered the Japanese auction site and decided to add a green dialled version of the pillow case... after a few days I snagged one at a great price.
I saw an awesome beads of rice bracelet and after weeks of trying to identify what model it originally came from I discovered it was a lord matic bracelet. Which lead me to seeking one. The 5605 is still in its way and I while bought for the bracelet, which is a super-cool beads of rice, I’m starting to appreciate the pictures of the old lord matic watch head with all of its patina on the linen dial.
So in a little over a month I’ve gone from zero to four watches, three of which I now have and have been rotating on the wrist.
SNKK67 (silver dial, gold dial furniture, the daily beater)
7005-7001 (matt blue crosshair dial, it’s a casual Friday watch)
7005-7001 (metallic green cross hair dial, let’s get funky on the weekend)
5606-7010 (lord matic - yet to receive)
Now I want to learn to service. I’ll probably be asking some questions on the lord matic when it arrives as it needs some cleanup.
Looking forward to participating in the forum.
