I've always been a Seiko watch owner since my dad gave me a Seiko Chronograph model 6139-6012 back in 1978 when I was 16. I wore this watch for years and then when I was in Japan in 1985 I bought myself a Seiko Speedmaster. Some years later I bought the Dancing Hands Seiko which I wore for a while. I'm currently wearing a Seiko Solar Sports 100 digital from 1979 which was my late dad's. Recently I decided to resurrect my 6139-6012 chronograph. It hadn't really had much use over the past 20 years but when I put it on it kicked into life and kept amazingly good time for the days I wore it. I decided to take it to one of the best watch service centres in Auckland to get it completely serviced. I am committed to getting this done to preserve the longevity of the watch and to ultimately pass it on to my grandson. The only disappointing thing is that although they can complete the service they do not have a replacement crystal for it. Hence my online search started and ultimately resulted in me joining this forum. I hope I will be able to source the correct crystal and gasket via this forum so this can be replaced at the same time as the watch service.

Very cool indeed. You can repolish the original crystal if the scratches are not too deep. Hardex the Seiko glass scratches real easy unfortuantely. That said it also repairs real easy too with some glass restoration polishes. If someone who knows what they are doing restores the crystal it will look perfect. Otherwise I'm sure there are a few folk who will point you in the right direction. Probably the same crystal as most of the 6139-6xxx watches which is why they can be hard to find at a decent price.

I would ship it off to Adrian at Vintage Time Australia. He would have no problem sourcing the crystal or having the original sent out to be polished. Also, I would trust him with the service as well, as a Seiko enthusiast he has parts that might need replacing. He also makes gaskets for the 6139's

I'm pretty happy with this. I received last week, ordered on Ebay, a "VTA BLUE Hvy DUTY Gaskets/SEALS fr SEIKO 6139-6012 + Cry SEAL + SPRINGS" from VTA Australia. It didn't take long to arrive shipping from Australia to NZ. Now just waiting on my crystal to arrive.

My Sternkreuz Mineral crystal has arrived from the UK. Now to get the crystal and gaskets dropped off to my service centre in Auckland. Will post a picture in a few weeks time once the full service has been completed.

Finally got my fully serviced 6139-6012 back. Looking pretty good for 43 years old. Keeping great time to 5 seconds per day. Tried to upload a picture but apparently have exceeded the allowance for one thread. Will look to start another and try again.
