What is that on the cover? It looks like a 30m SilverWave with a date window. I've never seen that before.

I like the premise, this taken from the publisher's web page:
About the Book Seiko has built a legacy of creating purpose-built watches for professional adventurers. When did this legacy begin? Rediscover the lost history of Seiko's first professional mountaineer's watch. Follow the men whose challenge for glory took them to the savage and extraordinary mountain Gyachung Kang.

If you click on the sample, and flip to the back page of the book, it has a picture of a (the?) caseback. I see a serial number, though it doesn't look like there is a caliber number. There is kanji around the edge (maybe the quote on top?)

I will be very interested to hear more about that watch. I am not sure I've ever seen one before... It's model number from the book is "J12082S" as opposed to the standard 50M Silverwave serial of "J12082." For me the similar but different serial lends credibility to this being genuine.

Hey guys, This is my book. It's the culmination of three years of research, collaboration with different artists, and interviewing the living expedition members. You guys have pointed out the right stuff... the Silverwave's were never produced with a date function (or a 24 jewel movement). The model J12082S has never been known to exist. For the full story, best way to find it is to go to the blurb bookstore page and search for the title: www.blurb.com/bookstoreOr current direct link: www.blurb.com/b/10712669-this-is-gyachung
