I like it too but my word, another limited edition? I'm also curious how the Alpinist theme being a field watch can be associated with a shopping district in Tokyo?

The dial immediately reminded me of "Vertigo"...

I like it, but I won’t be buying one. As you say Russ, yet another limited edition - and not even a numbered caseback LE.
I can think of plenty of other pieces I’d sooner stump up my hard-earned for, and still have change left over. I wish I’d jumped on one of the Timefactors Smiths Caribbean 1000 offerings the other weekend - these look to be exceptional value for money.

It's pretty, I like it, I won't buy it, because, well, I have other things I like and want. And looking at it, I don't think "Ginza".

I like the throwback dial markers and hands but I don't see anything Alpinist about this watch (other than the 1960's standard of being water resistant)
No compass bezel, no GMT, etc.
Maybe you can line the hour hand up with one one of the corners of the X on the dial at high noon to tell you how many more days of winter there will be if you can't find a groundhog.

I hear you Rod. They did the same with the Presage Crown chronograph ‘homage’ - LE SPB127/129/131 with the 6R35 movement and then 15 months later release the SRPG03/05/07/09 for 25% less with the 4R35, different bezel and Hardlex vice sapphire.

To be fair both watches were announced at the same time, so people were aware of the other models in the range if they were purchasing the LE model. The LE does use a completely different case to the standard models. Honestly I do not have a problem with the release of the high priced recreation models and then the more affordable modern reinterpretations. As we have seen from the diver side it gives collectors the ability to purchase an extremely well made LE, while introducing some new models that have the same feel while using modern materials and construction techniques. The higher end SLA range models generally do not appeal to me as you can usually pick up a decent example of the original watch for the same money or less, but there clearly is a market for these, as we have seen. I would rather purchase a lower priced model that I will not hesitate to wear anywhere but still gives me a feeling of the historical model without being a direct copy. I do hear the complaints that Seiko has a lot of LE releases and they are announced on a regular basis, but you also need to remember that Seiko releases a lot more models than just about any other watch brand. So far this year over 70% of new models from Seiko have been standard additions to the line up and not LE models.

Why in the name of Zeus' fiery, cracking butt-hole did Seiko stop putting 'Alpinist' on the dial of watches it calls 'Alpinists'? Particularly when these watches are meant as more or less modern clones of 1960s models that did say 'Alpinist' on the dial?
This fact has put me off of every 'Alpinist' model Seiko has produced for the last 15 or so years.

Seiko has been trying to cash in on the Alpinist name and its popularity...but it really has become blatant, unfortunately.
