As some of you may have read recently; I've been reviving some old 6309 movements. All of them are running but there is quite a wide variance in time keeping and power reserve. No doubt this all comes down to microscopic wear that I have not ferreted out and taken care of and it probbaly has to do with tire mainsprings. But one of the 6309s is blowing my mind! This one runs for almost 48 hours and it simply does not deviate more than a couple of seconds from the NIST! This particular movement will be getting the home position in my 6309-7040 instead of the project 6349 which works fine but is only of normal timekeeping and reserve. Not much point in a picture since the movement is awaiting a day/date wheel of the 4 o'clock variety from a generous forum member. This is one of the cleanest and best finished 6309s I've had the pleasure of working with and when the wheels arrive, I will endeavour to take some pics that do the calibre justice chinathumbsup.gif This is the beast that will get the movement I just described... Also, I am no longer convinced that this is an AM dial. The only issue that has come up is the lack of a prominent bevel on the day/date window. At any rate, it's good enough for me and it does glow into the night although it is pretty hard to see just before dawn. The AM dials I've seen don't hold the lume charge for more than an hour or so.

I too have a great performing 6309-. It's in a dress watch case but runs -6 seconds per day and has a 36 hr power reserve.
Not bad for a 'cheap' movement from 1972.

The 6309 is a fantastic motor, I shit you not, a serviced NOS 6309 movement I used in a 6105 kept exact time over a 1 month trial

huh... that's very interesting!
But you know what? I got that batch of 6309s (and some 6319s) from Ramon, and I haven't tested any of them. What's wrong with me?
UPDATE: only two will even wind, and neither of those two run, at all. Not a single runner in the lot.

I just had the dial off while swapping in the 6349 from the forum project. Under magnification it is easy to see it's AM. The back of the dial doesn't look like the Seiko ones I've seen either. But that's what I have and it is close enough to the genuine article for me; in particular because the lume isn't that sickly green we have come to associate with AM dials and that same lume actually works pretty good :-)
