I'm somewhat torn, between new and old. I really do love the hands on a MM... But I also really like the old skool hands, from the vintage Sportmatics... Can these be in the conversation? How about batons? Anything out of the ordinary that you prefer, aside from the classics?

All of those are kind of cool. What I don't like are the Monster hands...flat out ugly...JMHO.

I know it's tough to choose, because sometimes it also depends on the dial. The old style hands that came on the 6303/6309 divers are the ones I like on the bigger divers. On the dress type watches I really like hands that are shaped like those on this watch.

I think I dislike baton style hands because they are imprecise by design - because the tip is fat and blunt, it's up to you to mentally judge the midpoint of the end and then extend a perpendicular line out to the markers if you want to the time with confidence to an accuracy of one minute or less. I realise this is not really a practical concern, because nine times out of ten one just wants to glance at the watch and know the approximate time, to within say five minutes. But accuracy beyond practical requirements is something that appeals to me in watches. I mean, the entire history of horology is about striving to come up with machines which do a better job of telling the time. Even if I don't need to know the time down to the sub-minute, there feels to me something slightly perverse about putting hands on a watch which actively fight against trying to read it accurately, even if only a little. This leads me to prefer hands which are very narrow and the ends, and I really like the Sportsmatic hands. However, I don't mind if the hands are wider away from the end, e.g. those fat lumey diver hands that narrow down to needles at end are a-okay in my book. Ironically, I think I slightly dislike second hands which are uniformly very narrow their entire length (like the sportsmatic). I don't know why. Maybe they're just boring, or maybe the simple fact that a hand gets narrower toward its end evokes a kind of intuitive/subconscious feeling of precision, more like it's deliberately pointing very precisely at one point. I'm probably overthinking things massively here. a227
Colour-wise, I definitely love yellow/orange/red second hands and chrono-register hands, as seen on just about any 70's Japanese chrono. yes1.gif

Like these because there kind of a modern take on the vintage style.

I think the MM hands are nice except for the second hand.
Not sure about the divers hands with the arrow ends but maybe that is because I have so many watches with them on them and have grown tired of seeing them.
I wonder if the MM hands would lose their cool if I had to look at them all the time too.

If they do that should bring the cost down but I don't think they will put a set of MM hands on a 5. You might find a "similar" set on one someday but I bet the finishing won't be as nice.

You gotta think they have a stash of the MM hands lying around, but probably not enough to do a run of another model.

I have been sworn to secrecy by someone in the know that there are a few "phuk me in the ass with a 4X4 plank" parts still available from Seiko if you have a part number and an in with their parts department.

From a style point of view, I'd choose the 6105 hands all day long but also like the kind used on some of the 70m Diver's. I also like to see the 6309 type hands that have just a bit of Wabi to them, particularly if they've gone a bit cream coloured or darker. And I even quite like looking at the hands on my work beater, especially if they are telling me it's nearly time to go home.

I always like the hands on their Samurai offerings. Kinda regret letting this one go and no, it wasn't because of the hands!

I like some of the modern Tuna hands also, SBBN015, and SBDX011 (I used them in this mod, only way I could afford them LOL)
