Well, the real thing has been on my list for quite some time, perhaps this one can be the gateway.

What I find amusing is that now, Omega owners will be faced with a similar conundrum that Rolex owners face when approached by someone asking...is that a real Speedmaster?

FWIW, as a Speedmaster Pro owner - forget about the MoonSwatch - there are sooooo many "Speedmaster" versions, having the "Moon Watch" mistaken for any of the other versions is just as easy, and not new. Then you have the Hesalite vs Sapphire, the closed vs expo case backs, the dot above 90 vs to the top-right... Then the different movements, etc.
One more play on the Speedmaster can't possibly dilute the pool any farther than Omega has already done themselves IMO. All of that and I still agree with the sentiment that every watch enthusiast should own a Speedmaster Pro at some point.

Does the fact that there are blatant knock-offs available, take away from the overall allure of some watches? Good question. I hate to even use the term "homage" at times. I guess it's pretty tough to be all original these days. Insofar as the Speedmaster is concerned, I'm not aware of too many knock-offs per se, but then again it doesn't really float my boat anyway. Rolex of course, is another matter since I don't think any watch has been copied so much as their submariner. Perhaps given the plethora of originals, homages, knock-offs or even fakes has taken the allure away since the style is so common. For me, the Speedmaster while a superb piece seems to almost common to me as well. So yeah, now that the Moonswatch has hit the streets I reckon the allure for me will fade even further.

Apparently the blue dye is running off on some wrists under humidity and wet skin. Not sure about the other colours but it's a hard no from me.

Ya that is a pretty shocking quality control problem.... Also kinda turns me off to it, but I think I would still own the whole set if they ever offer that. I like watches with a story, and this one is still brewing, but looks to be a good one. Amongst the tools in line to try and get some to scalp online, there were also many real enthusiasts, as documented here: www.hodinkee.com/articles/omega-swatch-moonswatch-madness-watch-spotting

This is probably the main reason I never pulled the trigger on one, I had no idea what I really wanted. I created a thread back in the day, lots of good info, but I could never decide on a clear cut winner.

While I do like a few of them and less expensive than the actual Speedmaster (did own three). Probably wouldn't buy one as I'm not a quartz fan and rarely used the chronograph. Which is why I sold the other 3
$450.00 retail with tax in Toronto, but I plan on a new ipad 10th gen. if it comes out in Sept. and need that more than another watch.
Ebay sales. Nobodies paying those crazy prices. Friends bidding up the price trying to hook a rube
The old pump and dump
