Hello Everyone!
I'm new to the forum and sure would appreciate your help and advice. I just purchased a Seiko Bullhead SpeedTimer 6138-0040 on the "bay" and have some questions about it's authenticity.
Here's what I've learned so far...
The sweep second hand does not appear to be original. The one on the watch is yellow and it should be red/maroon based on my research of this particular model. Do you know if this is correct?
The seller stated in the listing that the bracelet was original. This does not look like the original bracelets that I've seen. It should have Seiko and SpeedTimer on the clasp. Any help on what model this bracelet was originally spec'd on is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for all of your time and help!
Take care,

Hi dapellegrini!
That's one of the sites I looked at when I was researching the watch. Thanks for your time and help.
Take care,
Rob

Hi Rob, welcome aboard! The bad news: that bracelet is certainly not correct to this watch. While it's familiar, I'll be damned if I can place it. My first thought was the 6119-6400, but that's not quite right (though that particular watch was pretty promiscuous with its bracelets, so...maybe). I did find a photo of that combination, but I don't think it's correct. Anyway, the bracelet on your watch should be a "fishbone" style. To the best of my knowledge, that was the only way any bullhead was sold, although with Seiko, exceptions were the rule. The good news: as best I can tell from your photo (it's showing up rather small), the hands are correct. It's always possible they're aftermarket--again, hard to tell from the pic--but the photos below show a few of these that have passed through my hands, all with yellow sweep hands. Admittedly, these had rather dodgy backgrounds, but even so, all ending up by chance with incorrect yellow hands seems improbable. Plus there are plenty of photos out there showing yellow sweep hands. Hope that helps, Danny

To correct itsdannym, the JDM model (with the Speedtimer text on the dial) should have an oyster style bracelet, rather than the fishbone. There are some good AM fishbone bracelets that will look good on it though.

Good looking Bullhead! I've been on a similar journey in trying to authenticate a 6138-0030 with the Champagne dial. Turned out it had the wrong hands, but was otherwise correct. I used i guide on this website: vintagewatchinc.com/seiko/6138-chronograph/#6138-004X_Bullhead They dont have a full guide on the bullhead but there might be some useful information for you.

There are some good AM fishbone bracelets that will look good on it though. My mistake, thanks for clarifying! As I poke through what I have and have had in the past, it looks like none of my JDM bullheads ever came on the original bracelet, so all the original ones I’ve encountered were fishbones. On the bright side, I do have an original fishbone I’m interested in selling…

Hi Rob,
Happy to sell you the bracelet. I'm always a little shaky on bracelet pricing, but there's one on ebay right now for $130 so...I don't know, does $100 Paypal F&F shipped within the US seem fair? Pics to follow.
Danny
