I admit, I am addicted to watches. I have too many, and hardly sell any of them. That is what a collector is...
And here I will post a few watches, I really love: First the watch in my avatar. It is a Lord Marvel 5740-8000, build in 1966. It pretty rare, because it has the 5740B movement, the low-beat, which was used untill 1967, when the 5740C was introduces. I bought me this watch for parts, as it looked really ugly and corroded on the pictures. But when I got the watch, the movement was running, and I took some time to clean this watch. A big surprice, as the watch turned in a real gem, looking stunning after all those years. All corrosion is gone, no pitting, and only a little stain on the dail, between 1 and 2. Otherwise the watch is really stunning! This is how I got it here. Would you buy and wear it in this condition?

And believe it or not, the is the same watch, cleaned and on a nice black leather strap. I like the old dial more than the "newer" from 1967- The fact, it does not beat at 36K doesn't bother me, I like it even more just ticking 19,8K

But I got another 1966 low-beat Lord Marvel 5740-8000, a SGP version in very good condition. I found it on the same time as the watch above and it was offered at buy it now for a very good price. I did not hesitate, and bought it. And frankly, it is just beautiful! The gold markers and hands are simply more beautifull, then the later versions where the markers and hands are black/gold.
So these are the first watches I published here. More will follow...

vmaxnl - Wonderful rescue! I love to save watches like this myself. I agree it's a stately watch and just perfect the way it is. Thanks for sharing it! I think many will agree that sometimes simplicity and understatement are just more sophisticated than embellishments.

Let's continue: When you got the Lord Marvel 5740-8000, you got to have also the 5740-1990. I have the steel version and the SGP version.

But there is more. More Seiko Marvel... The Seiko Marvel, I got 2 of them. I bought one, and got a good deal on the other and bought it too...
And then there was the Gyro Marvel... It needs a new crystal, but this is the original, and I really like the style. The space-age 12 and the Gyro-emblem are just too cool!

And now 2 other watches. The Seiko Crown. I think, this watch is really underrated. Just look how beautiful it is!
And this Seiko Champion 850 is also a real gem:

Wonderful watches ! Thanks for sharing, I like how you focus and zero in on the SS vs SGP models, etc. My only 5740 is the LM36000:

Wow vmaxnl - great collection! Put me down for the Seiko Gyro Marvel, I couldn't agree more how cool it is with that decorative 12 index! And it seems very difficult to find this Caliber 290 watch from 1959 with that stylized 12 o'clock marker. They seem to be much more commonly found with just a double index at 12.

And on we go... I am rather fond of a special group of watches of Seiko. The Electromechanic watches of Seiko have a special place in my collection. I got several of them...
My first introduction was this EL370, 3703-8010 from 1972. Can you believe that someone sold me this watch as black dial? I am happy it is not, because it is one of my all-time favorite, because of the beautiful dial. And I like the hidden crown.
I got several EL-370, but only 1 no-date. The 37-8000 with this special black dial. Being a no-date does mean it is much flatter and does wear better than the heavier date-models. Pay attention to the dial, they don't make them like that anymore!
And of course I do have the day-only version. In fact, I got 2 of them... The same model, but one build in 1970 and the other one in 1971. The '70 has other hands and a has a silver dial, with a light sunburst. The '71 has a white dial. There are differences in the case too.

But Seiko has other electronic watches, such as the EL-330 series. I got 2 of these, both are very beautiful, but I still have to get used to the unusual position of the crown, between 2 and 3... But in design, wow!
Seiko EL-330, 3303-8080 from 1972
The Seiko EL-330, 3303-8120E. It's all original, but the original glass is damaged. It got a nasty scratch, and being a 9 sided faceted crystal it is hard to get a right replacement. I am looking if someone can polish the scratch, and replace the correct and original crystal again...

And there is still more to come. Seiko also made the Seiko Elnix. These were the high-beat versions, ticking @28800 beats. You could buy them in very funky designs, as you can see.
This is a Seiko Elnix 0702-6010. It is a basic design and a bit smaller, but is a day-only.
This Elnix screams 70's all over the place. Color tabacco gold/brown, with facet crystal...
This is one of the first 2-tone dials, and it does shine in blue/silver! 0703-8040
And then they made a special version of the Elnix, the Seiko Elnix SG, 0723-6010

Wow. Just wow. You’ve got some gorgeous watches there that I’m extremely envious of! I think the late 50s/early 60s were the golden era for Seiko dress watches. I had a couple of Elnix that I off-loaded a while ago, and a big part of me wishes I hadn’t.

Continue... Now vintage quartz. You can argue about it, but fact is, that Quartz watches were a main factor in the watch world. You can argue about having no 'soul', but then again, these watches are often made in very good design. To honour that legacy I got me a selection of vintage quartz watches: This is my oldest Quartz watch, the Seiko Quarts vfa 3823-7000 from September 1971, it looks very nice and clean. I got another one, from 1974. This is a 3823-7001 white dial. Then we got a 3703-7020 from 1972 A square Seiko QT from 1974, sadly not the best dial... The we move over to the King Quartz. I got 2 very nice 0853-8001 in 2 colors. The are both from 1975 A square King Quartz, the 5856-5000 from 1977 looks really stunning on the original bracelet and with snowflake dial... This King Quartz 5855-8010 looks a lot like my King Seiko 5625-7113, but looks and feels cheaper. Back then the price was not cheap... And then there was the Twin-Quartz... First the King Quartz 9443-700A from 1982. From all my watches, the is the one, that wear by far best. It is light, comfortable and distinguish. I can fully recommend this watch for anyone to get in the vintage quartz watches. You won't regret it! Are we there yet? No, a Grand Quartz could not be missed in this collection. This Grand Quartz 9942-7000 from 1979 with snowflake dial and Roman numbers was quite a journey. Try to get a battery hatch for this watch... It is near impossible! I had to buy me a parts watch to get the hatch.
Then there are toolwatches. And quartz watches are very good tool watches, because of less moving and delicate parts.
The Seiko Silverwave is a nice example... This is a 8229-7000 with a black dial.
And a 8229-7004 with silver dial and funky orange tropic...

And a quartz diving watch should also be there, the Seiko Professional 7C43-6010. This is a mid-size diving watch capable of depths of 200m.

Excellent! I am both fascinated and horrified as you share your collection. Fascinated with the watches you have, horrified to think how many more I am going to end up collecting - many of these were not on my radar.
