Nice watch and great story Tristan. It certainly looks to be a top-heavy bit of a beast - how does it compare to the Bullhead out of interest?

Great read! Thanks for sharing.
Did you share the results with the former owner?

Fantastic tritto, I LOVE a storied watch, and to have a one-owner piece with the pilot's license to go with it is over the top! That is the kind of provenance is priceless! I hope you got a photo of the two of you at the hand-over, and that the previous owner enjoys your new found love of his old instrument.
Thanks for sharing!

Ah mate, the Flighty is one of my favourite pieces. Bulky and ridiculous but absolutely bloody gorgeous to look at. Well done on a great score and a great result getting her up and running again.

Great story. Having the connection with the original owner like you did changes so much about the watch. You made the right call to leave the case unrestored. Without knowing the history, I would tend to want the watch look new again if possible, but not after hearing the story to give meaning to all of its marks. Nice watch!

What a cool watch! I saw it on the WRUW thread and almost commented there - happy to see a separate thread here. I didn't realize the buttons are color coded like that - is that original?

Yes, the colour coded buttons were there from the start (although these are service replacements). The colours match the functions. Blue for the gmt hand, black for the rotating bezel, yellow/red for the chronograph. Originally the chrono buttons were either yellow or red depending on what colour your chrono hands were, but Omega then switched to the non-specific yellow/red buttons.

Great great pickup and story. Congrats.
Lots of credible rumors the Flightmaster is being re-released.

Great great pickup and story. Congrats. Lots of credible rumors the Flightmaster is being re-released. Really? That would be a hit. I wonder if they'll be able to use the name though - I thought Seiko had it registered these days.

I wonder if they'll be able to use the name though - I thought Seiko had it registered these days. I ‘think’ they had it registered in Japan but not elsewhere? I could be absolutely wrong though, according to my wife I often am.
