Clearly there is a significant correlation between watch enthusiasts and automobile enthusiasts. So let's start a thread (unless you can point me to one that already exists?) of your best car spotting photos. Modern, Classic, cheap, priceless, modded and original - whatever you saw and thought worthy of a photo. If you know more about the car - please share. Photos from way back when, or moments ago... I'll start. I spotted this one back around the holidays last year... Only one I have ever seen in the US - an original Alpine A110: I would love to own one of these... but am no expert. This one has perhaps been monkeyed around with a bit.

Another "never thought I would see one in person / locally" ... The Aston Martin One-77. This is actually Chassis No 0 - it was the demo car that reviewers thrashed. After making the rounds, Aston apparently completely disassembled, and then reassembled the whole car, engine and all - to like new condition. It is now owned by a local car enthusiast - and one of the coolest things to see in person. This was a couple weeks ago, getting coffee... He had just wrapped it: These are not street legal - the owner says he had to get a special kind of license to drive it up to 2,500 miles a years to shows and events as a special show car... Here it is before getting wrapped This is one of three known examples in the USA

My sister had the Countach poster. I had a 930 Turbo on my wall . When she was about 12 she was reading an editorial on the Countach in Road & Track managzine and it summarized that only men could appreciate the car for what it was (it's flaws and beauty all in one). She was deeply offended and wrote to the magazine. Her rebuttal was published! A week or two later she got a letter from the San Diego chapter of the Lamborghini club (we had no idea it existed - this was not our scene). It seems they convinced R&T to get the address so they could write her a letter (can you imagine them doing that today?!) and she was invited to go to a club meet. She was a celebrity for a day and got to ride around in many different classic and modern Lambos. I didn't get to go, and we have no photos that I know of, but it's a great story anyway, right?

They're not the prettiest 911 out there, that's for sure, but they are symbolically memorizing to me. One thing I recall is hearing the compressors wind down after a hot run followed by a prompt shut down and hop out of the car. It's a sound I'd not likely forget, and it's not really unique to the car but an indelible moment still with me. The ports in the quarter panels just behind the doors feed the airbox which in turn feeds the inlets to the turbochargers. Speaking of which, here' a little animation I made to help my coworkers understand the turbo logic on the car so we could better plan how to effect the control
1) Primary Turbocharger (left below - small turbine, quick spooling) / Secondary turbocharger (right below - High boost high RPM)
2) Wastegate (Boost control in twin-turbo operation only) 3) Compressor cut-in valve (stops primary from trying to anti-spool the secondary)
4) Turbine cut-in valve (Secondary Turbocharger Pre-spooler, basically a wastegate to primary turbo) 5) Timing valves (Boost control solenoids for #2 and #4) 6) Exhaust balancing cross-over pipe (For bank 2 to feed primary turbo in single turbo operation) 7) Recirculating air valve (pressure relief of intake on throttle closing) 8) Vent valve (pressure relief of secondary turbo in various states of operation) 9) Boost Pressure Control Unit (A complete second ECU under the passenger seat next to the primary fuel and ignition computer)
I replaced the pair of ECUs with one of our high tech engine management ECUs and got the whole thing up and running quite nicely. We then ran a test with modern parallel turbos and basically removed all this engineering art to make more power sooner and more smoothly. The Germans did what they could with the technology of the era, we had the benefit of 20 years of turbocharger improvements on our side making it easy to stand on the shoulders of their giant and boost this vehicle even further.

E30 FTW! Oh I came >this< close to buying an original M3 'E30' with the S14 engine in it. It was just too much money for me in those days. I wouldn't be content without turbocharging it either. A legal impossibly in California then and now. I looked at a 2002 as well, as it was old enough I could get away with the turbo system. Still the ones I found to my liking were just too much money for a young engineer with a stay at home Wife and two young boys.

Ah, yes, makes perfect sense. That means that car has some of my digital DNA in it
oh man, so sad to see that speedster modified like that. I like the original way better! This customer's car may have accidentally followed me home for lunch one day. Don't I look great in it?

Awesome... I really like these modernizations of iconic cars... Make them drive and handle like a modern version, while leaving the car dripping with cool retro styling.. They are apparently now pushing 800+ HP out of these

This is the Renault Twizy. Its a super narrow car that looks a little like a four-wheel motorcycle... I am not sure we will ever see something like this in the US. I thought it was a one seater, but I guess there is another seat in the back: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Twizy

And this is a Ferrari F12 TDF (Tour de France) in exposed aluminum (hard to see that in my photos here). This is one of my favorite modern F-cars. These were taken last December at my favorite local watch / jewelry shop - were (you guessed it) the owner is a big car (Porsche) guy.

And from that same gathering - this Jaguar XKSS showed up. Not sure if this is one of the original 16, or of the 25 OEM re-editions that Jaguar did... but it is always treated with extreme reverence wherever I see it It was parked next to one of several McLaren Elvas that we have in town

I'm amazed. Read over at BAT that Singer is now working in turbos for their restomods...guys are drooling to see what they look like...Still that last sale was $1.2 and a five year wait. M1stW tells me to pay more attention when I'm driving yet she never sees all the cars I do... Well she sees them just not what they are... dapellegrini's post on the countach was also mentioned their at BAT buy a guy who just couldn't love driving his. I recall his comment was something to the effect "It's not like you can just wear any kind of shoes and drive them..." Back to the singer an owner there said his was as comfy on the track as sitting in traffic in the city...
