So, I stumbled on these Alarm Quartz watches that were clearly (a short lived) follow-up to the mechanical Bell-matics that I am still working through. Fascinated, I have source a bunch, and now need to get them cleaned up and sort the parts watches from the keepers.... Today was tear down of 4x 7223-6000's and two 7223-601X's... Here is the first batch: I believe the 6000's are on original bracelets. The 6019's not so much. First is bracelet removal and removal of all the extra links - these tend to clean up much better when deconstructed as much as possible. Rock hard gasket removal I don't understand how full length hairs make it UNDER the outer case back? Disgusting I'm having a terrible time getting the second 6019 torn down - the case back will NOT come off. currently letting the super glue dry for a second try at "wrench super glued to case back".... TBD While I sort that out, I put the 6000's through the U/S I manually cleaned the cases, incase the fake black speaker inserts might come off in the U/S.... modules to be sorted back into cases soon

Can’t help but see the influence of the AP Royal Oak in these. A classic design that will always look good.

So one of the 6019's would not open - and my hands were aching from massive case knife pressure, and other attempts. After a few hours, I decided it was time for the last resort - super glue. So, I put some super glue on the back of the case, then stuck a wrench on there - to serve as handles to push down with. Here's the setup: I use the case vice studs to prop the watch up at a small height using the hooded lugs as the pressure point, then push down on the wrench. First glueing gave up after maybe 100lbs of pressure... So I glued it again. This time it stuck really good. All of my weigh jumping up and down on it would not separate the case or the glue... Left some nice marks on my hands though So, I grabbed a couple of small flashlights to use has better handles to press against the wrench... and success! As much pressure as I could muster jumping up and down pushing all my weight on it finally did the job Next step, acetone bath/soak to remove the superglue. It took a good 30 minutes, but it finally all came apart and cleaned up, whew! Now into the U/S with these bits.

Once I have all of that cleaned up I need to get some gaskets back on all of these stems, and re-case them. One of the two 6019's has a good deal and case, but a movement that looses hours a day. The other has a muffed dial with graffiti on it, but keeps good time. I think I will swap those two across, so I have one set of problem spares... I believe all of the 6000's run, and 3 of the 4 cases have there fake black speaker inserts intact. EDIT: saldog - they do have a bit of a royal oak case shape. Can anyone tell me what that symbol on the dial is supposed to be? I can't help but seeing male genitals like kids would draw on playground equipment... I suppose that was not what Seiko was trying to communicate here? There are interesting alternating dials either with this genitals logo or SQ - alternating between each model...

dapellegrini - I don't understand how these cases latch together, could you clear that up a bit for me?
The symbol you are referring to is the Seiko's 'quartz' crystal icon. You'll see that going all the way back to the beginning. On the twin quartz stuff it's got two points up and three points down.

Thanks for sharing! I have missed these completely.
Looks awful a lot like 7123. What do others think?

That's some good ones there.
One of mine was held together by human debris, quite an experience if you can call it that.

Here's one my 6040's - the one that had the bent crown (and then broken stem). Note the design is quite different from the 6000's and 6010's, from the lugs to the numbers on the alarm ring

inboost - here's an anatomy of the case setup: backside looks like this: The inner case back has an o-ring and sits inside the case The outer case back is pressure fit over the inner case back and then over out outer lip of the case back. DNA/gunk tends to build up between the inner out outer case back because of the speaker hole openings. Net result is so far 1 out of 6 was so gummed up it took superglue and all my bodyweight to get the case back off The inner case back houses the speaker, and looks like this when disassembled: The speaker threads in here: And it looks like this when it's ready to reinstall Note the arrow indicating the correct alignment against the case Then the outer case back snaps over the whole thing The front of the case has your outer bezel, crystal gasket and crystal And here's the service manual for the 7223A: seikoserviceusa.com/uploads/datasheets/7223A.pdf

And here is a 603A: I hadn't caught it in the photos, but the dial surround under the crystal is essentially a mirror finish So in that lot, we have seen 6000, 601X, 603A and 604X. To be sourced a 602X and a 605X. The 6020 is essentially the same as this 6030, but with the SQ logo instead of the quartz logo

dapellegrini as you were working on these, did you happen to find a source for crystals? Specifically, for the 7223-6000. Or was it just a search through Y!.jp, ebay and etc.?

victor - I used aftermarket crystals for these - I believe from hovigs.com/ , or perhaps Cousins.
