I've been wanting to start a collection for sometime now, just had a wild hair a couple weeks ago and started grabbing some bottles, here is the state of affairs thus far. It's amazing that they say the bourbon can change in time after the bottle is opened, I guess it's really no different than wine or other spirits. I just need to get my pallet dialed in to start discerning and understanding what it is I'm actually tasting. Just for starters, I've pretty much kept everything under $100, going down to about $35 I think. No sense in going hogwild until I know I can actually appreciate it. Golly. This picture makes my liver quiver. Good to see you!

Oh btw, I also recommend getting a glass which enhances the nose, such as Glen Cairn, which is mostly seen with Scotch, but works with every whiskey. Standard Glen Cairn glass should set you back 5-10$.
Glass has a dramatic impact on the experience. It's easy to compare a traditional tumbler and a shaped glass side by side to notice the difference. Nothing wrong with a tumbler, but with more nuanced examples you want to maximize the experience!

Yeah, I picked up 4 of those when I started the collection.

Grabbed these on Friday, the Calumet 16 has gotten some great reviews, and the Wilderness Trail is a Total Wine store pick.

This Day in History: Heaven Hill Distillery burns in devastating fire
On this day in 1996, one of the country’s worst-ever distillery fires began. At the Heaven Hill warehouses in Bardstown, Kentucky, a fire started in the afternoon on Nov. 7 that eventually destroyed nearly 100,000 barrels of bourbon.
A storm was brewing in the afternoon, with winds clocking in at 70 mph. The fire began in one of the dozens of wooden warehouses that stored thousands of barrels of aging bourbon. Once it had started, the fire became almost impossible to stop.
The fire jumped between warehouses, incinerating the wooden holds fed by their extremely flammable contents. Hundreds of firefighters rushed to the scene to be met with walls of flames 20 stories high, which quickly gave way to an 18-inch deep river of burning bourbon. The weather conditions seemed just to enrage the fire, with the wind acting as a blowtorch. The responders eventually gave up trying to put out the fire and focussed instead on preventing other warehouses from succumbing to the flames.
Several hours after it began, a change in weather calmed the flames, and the damage could finally be seen. Witnesses compared it to a war zone, with skeletons of cars abandoned on the road, mailboxes from nearby homes melted by the heat, and still-flowing creeks of bourbon. Debris from the fire was found all around town, up to four miles away from the scene.
Miraculously, no one was hurt or killed. Investigators were unable to confirm the cause of the fire, given the lengths of devastation, but some believe it was a lightning strike or faulty electrical wiring that caused the blaze.
Seven warehouses holding millions of gallons of whiskey were destroyed, as well as the distillery itself. That added up to 2% of the world’s whiskey and 15% of Heaven Hill’s storage capacity. In total, the value of the losses totaled around $30 million.
Heaven Hill recovered from the event and, over the years, has grown its place within Kentucky’s bourbon industry.

I'm back in business after a dry season.
I'm going to pick up a bottle of Evan Williams White Label BiB next month.

Currently Woodford double oaked is a daily sipper but my bestbuy favourite would be 4 Roses Single Barrell (50% alc.). Such a great drink.
How do you find Michters? I did order it few days ago, waitting to arrive
Elijah Craig barrel proof and Stagg Jr are on a bucket list...

Woodford was my daily go-to, with Double-Oak my occasional sipper when I wanted to be a bit "fancy". Angel's Envy was my wife's once or twice a year sipper (she's damn near a teatotaler, which is strange to me, but also, more for me) - I'd occasionally have some Angel's Envy which I think is better than either of the Woodford's, but enjoy seeing how many years (decades?) she can make a bottle last so try to lay off that.
Maybe a year or so ago I discovered Jefferson's bourbon. I really like it. When I was passing through Kentucky end of summer last year I also picked up a couple of their Kentucky-only bottles and liked those too. I've not yet tried their Ocean Aged, as it seems a bit of a gimmick to age whiskey on a ship, but I will probably give it a whirl sooner or later too. Anyway, if your packie stocks Jefferson, give it a try. It won't break the bank and I think it delivers as a nice sipper.

I recently bought me Evan Williams BiB. It was 22€ in Estonia, which is ridicilously low in this part of the world.
Still in my top 3 "bang for the buck" bourbon.

Michter's is pretty tasty, I scored a 10 year a couple months ago, have not creaked it yet. It was on the top of many folks list last year, looking forward to trying it soon. The Staggs are awesome, I think I have 5 or 6 different releases. I was lucky enough to find all but one at MSRP in the past 8 months.
