Is the 6138 movement a "vertical clutch" chrono movement? I ask because I want to know whether I should keep the chrono running or not.
Also, anything special about the movement I should know? I do like that it can be hand wound.
TIA

If I'm not mistaken, I've read in the past that it's good to keep it running. I always keep mine running when I'm wearing it, hopefully I'm not wrong. Either way, I don't wear it enough to do any substantial damage.

Yep, Keep it running so as not to wear the clutch any more than is necessary, I also soften the flyback on all my 6139' and 6138's it's just too savage in most of the examples I've tinkered with, seikola

Thanks seikola. I know the 6139s are vertical clutches but I wasn't sure about the 6138s.

I've seen chrono wheels destroyed by a too-hard return, and have seen minute hands and sweeps damaged as well. Like you I set mine light.

Thanks seikola. I know the 6139s are vertical clutches but I wasn't sure about the 6138s. They're the same basic movement with the addition of the 12-hr wheel at the top. There's an additional plate with some more levers, a few extra springs etc. But aside from that, they're the same thing.
