That’s the box for the first ever model Seiko 5 - the J13081 from 1963. The later box is the one with the flap in the lid for the larger instruction manual. The J13081 had a small manual with clear plastic cover

Really jealous of the Vanac and the 9983 in particular.
Soon after I started buying from Y!.jp a while back, I won an auction for two Vanacs w/ box and papers. Of course it was a scam, and a few weeks later Buyee refunded my monies. I keep my eyes out, and while I see Vanac boxes fairly often (though usually without the outer sleeve), I have not seen them mated with their watches. And the 9983 - wow! I would be hard pressed to pass on that if I saw it up for bid.
