I’ll admit that I don’t set the date on most watches, and definitely not unless it has a quickset function.

Wow I never thought I would mind not having a date on my watch until I went without on a few, and yet I find myself checking several times a day...maybe my memory just sucks...I like the date feature.

To me, wearing a watch that isn't set is like carrying a flask with no booze in it.

I might have had a few choice words to share on this article (and plenty more people chimed in with their thoughts which I included). Am I allowed to link to it here? Can never remember the different forums' rules regarding linking to external content

As long as they're in the watch box, my watches can rest. They don't need to tell the exact time. But once on the wrist, they pride themselves on being as accurate as possible. This article reminds me of a student, last year at the end of an ordinary school day. A real baby thug, with all his accessories, even the "Luxury" crossbody satchel: hey man, you've got so many watches, but no Rolex... My first watch will be a Rolex. A long discussion followed about watches, brands, and that there was more to life than just Rolex. After a few minutes, he admitted: I don't give a damn about watches, I can't even tell the time on these F....ing hands. It's just Rolex... you know what I mean... It made my day, him asserting his superiority to all his minions... His disciples at his side looked on in disbelief... Our boss can't tell the time... He lost a part of his superbness...

To me winding my watches is a part of the experience, I also like to track accuracy and observe deviations with my iphone app

Of course, my friend has a speedy and a Rolex (won’t pretend to know which), and he never sets the time, just whacks them on for show. I call him on it all the time and he gets defensive 😂 really winds me up (pardon the irony)

To be fair some watches without quick set can be a real pain like some of my Boctocks or old Seiko's. I will often just set the time and not bother with the date unless I've got a spare half hour.
