I love the SKX case. The classic, iconic, comfortable, perfectly sized 6309 "Slim Case" that lives on all these 7002, 7C43, 7548, SKX, SARB, etc later. That's exactly what I mean to say. The diver case is really comfortable and lovely but if they can be bothered to design and manufacture a whole new case that's true to the original when they issued the SRPK17, (as well as the 1997 reissues) they can do the same for the other reissues. At this point it seems as if they're just churning out their own 'mods' for the sake of introducing new models.

OK I hear you now too ! I have the SPRK17 and all 9 of the non-LE 1997 reissues and you are spot on correct about that, they prove that Seiko can 'do it right' when they want.

SKX, or I should say 7548 or slim 6309 case is great but I really wish they would stop milking that. Enough is enough. In the past it was available only in few models at a time, while now it's even impossible to count them all.

It's kind of funny, everyone loved these watches and people were upset that there weren't enough... Now there are too many and people are upset.

I think the moral of the story is that some people are gonna be unhappy no matter what...

Right, and certainly there's no way to make everyone happy. Since Seiko keeps pushing more and more of them I guess people are buying new 5KX's

I do wish all these watches had 200m water resistance
Believe me, 100m is more than enough for most folks. Having a push-push crown is not an issue either. It takes substantial effort to pull out the crown; not that easy to accidently pull it out under water. A few months ago Teddy Baldassare interviewed a diver who sometimes dived with an SSK GMT (100m). I 100% trust a modern Seiko with 100m. Hamilton with 100m? That's another story .

I understand that, and I know that I don't need 200m water resistance. But if a watch looks like a duck and quacks like a duck but isn't as water resistant as a duck, that annoys me. Also, there are lots of things I do with water or in water that are more forceful than just immersion, and I don't want to be that unlucky person whose watch got flooded when they were spraying something with the hose or something. So I err on the side of overkill for watches that I am going to be intentionally getting wet.

I also thought a few years ago that these 5KXs weren't for me, but I have to admit that every time I go into a watch store, I look at them more, I end up finding the logo acceptable as well as the ordinary crown and the 10 bar. So much so that my wife encouraged me to pick one up on sale a few months ago, telling me "it'll make a great birthday present". It's a good thing my budget is limited and that I have other priorities, otherwise I'd already have some more in my boxes.

Ooof. Not a huge fan. These remind me of FrankenSeikos and the SKX customization boom of the 2010s.
Ebay listing, 2015: "Custom Rally bezel insert for your SKX! Make it look vaguely 6119-ish! Only $19!"

Even the SKX011 (orange skx). I got a really neat one in my hand, all original including the golden hands with pinkish lume. Restored it properly with a NOS gold/black bezel. Looked stunning in photos but whenever I wore it, it felt like a mod watch. A close buddy took it off me and even he got rid of it. I guess you can call any variation to the set pattern of the diver case polarising. 🤷♂️

SKX case should have been retired with the SKX.
No reason to keep the case going for the sake of in-house modding.
“It sells so Seiko must be right” is nonsense.

I don't really like the new 5 Sports logo (or the PSX Prospex logo, or the new Grand Seiko branding)
I've been saying the same thing since Seiko SOLD OUT and are trying to go all upitty richie phuk market.

Agreed. I guess I am extra biased against the 5kx because my daily wear watch is a 7C43-7010.

Well, the truth is 7548 and 7c43 were the best models using this case, with 7548-7010 being top dog, and then each newer iteration was just continuous cost cutting and degradation, all the way down to 5KX. I guess the next one will be using plastic case...
