As I get older and my eye sight worsens (the need for reading glasses) I notice that I need contrasting hands to dials, like an orange diver with black frame hands (my orange sumo). While my blue sumo is more difficult to read. Anyhow, I'm looking at getting a Damasko. You other old guys, do you think the black dial with white hands will be easier/harder/or the same to read as the white dial with black hands?
Does dial color make a difference or is it just a need for contrasting hands?
Thanks,
Jack

Thanks, Jack Jack, After many eye doctor visits and the testimony of many of my age wise counterparts; I think that a lot of what we suffer is cataracts; ie thickening of the lenses or clouding of the lenses. I also have many friends and relatives who have undergone the modern cataract operations to replace the lens in the eye. All, without exception, have all reported a restoration to 'crystal clear' vision. I am due to have this procedure soon and am looking forward to it. Note; this is not the same as laser surgery and does not have the same risks associated with it.

An occasional minor complication of cataract surgery may be some scar tissue forming on the newly implanted lens. The ophthalmologist/surgeon will monitor the condition and use a simple in-office laser procedure to remove the scar tissue when he deems the time is right.

I find that contrast between the dial and hand colour most helpful, so obviously white hands on black dial or vis versa is best for me as it offers the maximum contrast. Also a lack of dial clutter is helpful.
Cataracts....tell me about them, I have them too:-(

As for cataracts, some info here: www.medicinenet.com/cataract_surgery/article.htm
