I got through phases of watch type obsession. I go from divers to chronos and back again, with a sometimes foray into quartz (but always either divers or chronos.). I've been off chronos recently due to trying to rebuild my diver content in the box. I got too enthusiastic in cleaning out watches that "didn't get wrist time". As a result, I sold off a lot of stuff that I shouldn't have. When this happens, I neglect the other side of my watch boxes, in this case, chronos. I had someone who wanted to buy one of my chronos, my all-original and beautiful 6138-3009 from February ' 72. I said I'd think about it, but this time I did the smart thing which is to wear a watch for a day before selling it as a "non-wearer". Holy god I love this watch. This particular model doesn't come up that often, and this sub-model (3009) is even rarer. It's the N. American model, and they were only made for nine months in 1972 (as far as we can tell from caseback data). This one came from Canada, and has a French / English daywheel. The only thing it was missing was the original bracelet but that's not a problem for me. I put it on an NOS Stelux Seiko bracelet from the same era, along with a set of endlinks made by Jonathan Koch. The taper fits the case taper perfectly, and the finish (being original Seiko / Stelux) almost matches perfectly. It's awesome, and a keeper. Thanks for looking.

I think you have made the right decision, the wear it before flogging it strategy is very sensible. I too along with many other WIS have rashly flipped and regretted it later on.
With me I tend to rashly sell all sorts of stuff not just watches and a few months later start looking for the item I sold and can't believe I sold it.

I have a hard time going through the photos on this computer actually - so many watches sold. I look at them scroll by and say god dammit, if I had a time machine I'd go back and buy them from myself. I sold a beautiful 6306 and I'll never see the like of it again. I've sold some amazing watches. Stupid.

I would concur that that is the 'daddy' of 6138s for size, presence & style

Awe crap..... I'm going to be sick again. I wish I would've worn my 3000 one last time as you did.... I'd probably still have it.

Someone, and I don't remember who, gave me that advice when I was thinking about selling off my Speedy Pro. "Wear it for a few days. See if you actually don't like it, or if you've just forgotten how great it is.".

Since first running into all you guys the one thing above all else I have taken to heart is not selling them, not that flipping was ever part of my plan . . . I've now got thirty plus and couldn't even bring myself to sell one a few weeks ago, as soon as I put the 6105 back on, no way was it going anywhere . . . even the NOS 'Safe Queen' Sushi Roll reissue, doesn't even fit on my wrist, blue stickered caseback, won't ever wear it, not really in love with it anymore . . . you think I could sell it ? Nuh, mine, mine . . . all mine !!!

Great looking watch, and a great presence at 42mm. Congrats. For 6138's, I'd probably go with a Black Horse or grey dialed Baby Panda.

To the OP, that is one nice looker. I really like that Baby Panda dial, too.

I like it. I'm also fond of the 8000/01/10/20 etc. series and the 0030.
Congrats on the new forum.

A great model. The original bracelet (on left) is just perfect for the watch! One of the better bracelet/watch design combos IMHO. Still, the 6138-0011 and 6138-7000 are top if the 6138 heap for me!

Dave, you've got the JDM version there - is that bracelet applicable for the non-JDMs?

The JDM has its own bracelet design AFAIK. The one on the right in my pic is sporting Jonathan's h-link but I believe came on this originally.... Attachments:
