Just saw this....anyone familiar with this model?
This is supposed to be a late 50's or early 60's model.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the watch. That watch is incredibly eloquent !

It's either a 50s model or a really nice reissue.

Pay a visit to the Seikoholics forum... seikoholics.yuku.com/forums/71And look in the 'Japanese Watch Info Database' section. You will find nearly every vintage Seiko ever made listed. The archivist 'ninja01' is a very knowledgeable fellow by the name of Don Crotty. If you can't find what you need, contact Don as he likely has more info in his personal notes thunbsup.gif

It is what it is, a 1958 Seiko Unique 17 jewel manual wind. According to my reference book these were introduced in 1957 and came in 9, 15 and 17 jewel varieties, the 9 and 15 jewel ones had no antishock protection. They were made at the Daini plant, their version of the Suwa produced Seiko Super. It looks to be in very good condition, I'd think that the dial has been refinished though. I've never seen one that good, but perhaps it is a rare survivor. All in all very nice. Buy it.

I am perplexed that the case uses modern dating numbering Could the back be from another more modern watch, or perhaps giving credence to the re-issue idea?

I contacted the seller who is in Australia....alas the case size is just too small for me at 33mm across.
I've seen other models similar to this that were supposedly 37.5mm across and that might be doable even for a big guy like me....though that might be a stretch also.
Looks like I'm going to have to pass on this one...it's a shame too as it was priced very reasonably.

Looks good to me and I wonder if the blue dial isn't actually due to a tinted crystal and is really white in real life.
