The funniest part? There's nothing wrong with it.

Maybe the local repairman wanted the watch for himself................ He told the owner that there was a serious problem with the winding mechanism, that you can't get crystals for them anymore, and that it wasn't worth repairing. There's nothing wrong with the winding mechanism. The watch, while unrestored, is currently putting out about 190 for amplitude with a shit-ton of beat error. Case is to die for. A few extremely minor spots on the dial lume, easily remediated. Hand lume is junk. Insert is 95%. The current (and original) owner bought the watch new at PX in Okinawa in the early 70s and used it as a dive watch for a few years.

Only thing wrong with that watch is the fug band. He's lucky he found you. Just to satisfy the curious, how did he find you?

He should go back to that watch maker and punch him in the face! To be PC, he should punch him in the neck ;-)

I just had a similar situation with a customer bringing in a Rolex GMT from 1957. Another place he took it to told him that his watch was too old to get parts for and probably not worth repairing. He brought it to me and although not cheap he's going to get his watch running strong again.

I just talked to the guy. He's having the watch restored so that it is in 100% condition, so he can wear it for a bit, and when he dies it can go to his grandson in working shape.
He's delighted to have it all done. Full service, new seals, NOS crown if I can find one, relume hands, Type I crystal. I'm going to sell him on a Wjean waffle too.

I strongly encouraged him to never take this watch near water under any circumstances, and I think he got the message.

I told him how much his amazing original dial is worth, and what moisture will do to that amazing dial.

You should go spend $25 on a G-shock and send it back to him with the 6105 and tell him to use the G for fly fishing!

This is what you need...$30 on Amazon at all times...

Here it is after a full rebuild, an NOS Type 1 crystal, and reluming the hands and pip.

Looks fantastic, I'm sure the owner will be pleased. Hopefully, it doesn't go fly fishing with him.

Did you re-paint the 2nds hand too? I made the mistake thinking that the RED on the 2nds hand was actually a bright RED and had mine re-painted as such! Now I know better as its actually supposed to be a more pinkish color! Maybe I should send mine to you to have you re-do it to the correct color!?
