In yesterday's WRUW thread, the question was posed...are they functional or decorative? Appears to be a bit of both! I have not taken apart mine but I remembered I had this picture in a book. As you can see, the end links fit around the cutout in the lug area. The end links are secured it seems by the fat bars as usual. The plate and Allen screw is decorative.  There are folks who have done some strap mods...(borrowed pics) very cool!   |

Ah! Great illustration, thank you. It's what I suspected. Now oddly this actually makes me want one of these less. If it was functional I'd be down but if it's extraneous it might bug me. Not like I'm going to be buying a Spring Drive anytime soon..

Well, it would bother me if it was just a screw, or even worse, a fake screw head. It's a working screw designed to screw in the fascia. Ok, so not necessary, but at least it has a purpose! I'll let Seiko slide. I do think it looks pretty badass with the Sinn rubber!

It's pretty silly of me to care at all about that one detail - like it'd stop me from wearing one if the option presented itself. I mean, I own dozens of dive watches but I haven't gone diving since 2001. It's all style - I have no business complaining about functionality.

Hey bob,
If you enlarge or look more closely at the illustration, you'll see the hole for the spring bar in the center section

There is so much about the 600 I like, however, the whole middle piece is my Achilles heel stylistically, but I do dig it with the Sinn rubber . . . love the dial setup though.

Hey bob, If you enlarge or look more closely at the illustration, you'll see the hole for the spring bar in the center section I must be dense . . . . I see the hole near the right lug but I still don't get how it goes in. If looking down onto the lugs, I'm assuming it looks like this | |0| | so I don't understand how the spring bar makes it through the center section. |

Hi Bob... OK, took it apart and the spring bar does not go through the center section. The hole that appears to be there in the rendering is in fact not there on the watch itself. The end link snugs up to and sits under the center section. The bracelet looks like this when separated from the watch and you can see the ends of the springbar...sorry for the crappy pic  The lugs look like this...top view  And the bottom view...  |
