Also, now that I've noticed the insert being at the wrong level (thanks Josh) I need to find a way to figure out where it was in that ring so it sits flush again.
Maybe next time before you pop the insert out take a center punch or something and mark the underside the bezel at the 12 o'clock point so after cleaning you can line it back up.
You supposed to do that when pulling driveshafts and CV shafts out so as not to cause a rotation vibration while driving.
I'd probably use a jeweler's scribe, or just a plain old magic marker.

Any 6309 that pulled its weight on a divers wrist is OK by me. For sure just change out the crystal & let her be. Don't let Tim have it, I already want his "beater 6309" lol. Hey now, one can never have enough beater 6309's.

Actually it turned out to be much simpler than that. I forgot to put the shim in underneath the insert. That's in now, and it's right where it needs to be.

Hate the new crystal decision, but other than that it looks cool!

Hate the new crystal decision, but other than that it looks cool! Well then, I've got good news for you! Here it is with the shim back where it should be under the insert, and an original crystal I'd saved, scratches and all. The original original crystal was unusable - literally frosted to the visual clarity of wax paper, seriously.
