Hi Folks,
I just wanted to weigh in with my personal experience. I have a 6139-6002 chronometer with the yellow "Pogue" dial that I purchased new in early 1973 in Takhli Thailand at the Airforce BX.
The serial number is 257532. This particular watch was for my father who passed in 2001. He seldom wore it preferring instead a Seiko Bellmatic of the same vintage.
I recently re-discovered the watch going through his possessions. It has never been apart, or cleaned etc. and started right up when shaken a bit, but when I pushed the buttons, the hands reset to zero and the buttons refused to come back out and now the second hands are stopped at zero. The watch is keeping perfect time and the day and date reset OK, changing as it should after midnight.
The watch was missing its band so I purchased a look-alike on Ebay. This watch has the black inner bezel that rotates fine with the crown. If I can find a suitable place to have it serviced, I would like to have it fixed.

Nice, and this has never been serviced so far as you know? It’s referred to as an Aussie Pogue due to the black rotating ring. Some people think they aren’t original, most of us in here think they are though. Beautiful piece, thanks for taking the time to share the pics.

By now the record has been set straight, yes indeed black inner rotating rings with gold dials sold in Asia are real indeed. This is another example of living proof.

Remarkable! So fantastic to see it so well preserved. The stuck buttons are almost 100% due to old hardened o-rings. Nothing to fret there. We have several highly qualified members here who can service your Pogue.

But agreed dirt could be it too.

Hey Guys, just wanted to share my latest resist dial 6139-6005 from Feb '72. I did fit it with an AM acrylic crystal since any scratch would be easy to buff out. Couldn't be happier😊

As close to a space lab as I'm gonna get.

How difficult is it to replace the chrono button gaskets on a "pogue" 6139-6002? Mine are stuck and the second and minute hands are stopped a zero.
Does this require a professional or can it be done by a diligent owner with some basic watch tools?
Thanks,
Mike

It isn't too hard. You will need a caseback wrench, a sharp X-Acto type knife, new gaskets, and some silicone grease.

Today I planned to change a crystal on my 6139-6030. I got a couple of the new crystals from Tom and it seemed like the perfect day for it. Then I realised I haven't taken apart a 6139-600X in about 4-5 years. In order not to screw anything up I decided to refresh my memory on a true Pogue that has been begging for a better crystal for years, going thru my spares I found an old, but better crystal that was perfect for the practicing I had in mind. Also, the dial had a red flake on it that detached from the subdial teardrop hand. Cleaned up the case parts a bit and put it back together. Definitely see the dial better. Rob PS. Didn't have time for the 6139-6030.

Good call. I have a few sets from Adrian, I believe. (Although I'll be shipping this one to Tom, so if I screwed something up, it would be remedied by a pro)

Today was the day. Fortified by a smooth practice run yesterday, it was time for the true test ( I have no problems working on beaters, but the better examples freak me out a bit) Amazing how much crap comes out of a seemingly clean watch. Fitted Tom's new crystal, which is spectacular and dead on, the crystal gasket accepted it like it had a suction cup. Really happy with the result. Rob Before and after. A better before photo.
