No; it is pure aftermarket and never made by Seiko. The real McCoy is printed with the full 'Hong Kong' on it.

No; it is pure aftermarket and never made by Seiko. The real McCoy is printed with the full 'Hong Kong' on it. Right, of course. But we have seen original dials that have been scrubbed to the black and reprinted. Note the date window bevel. It's there. Are there fakes that have the date window bevel? I'm mostly interested in this question not because I'm hoping the dial is "quasi-original" but so we can better understand the fakes. I haven't seen this particular variant before. It has some subtle touches. The grey-printed "water" & "resist" are a slightly different grey than the "150". The date window is beveled. The text printing is terrible and even without the "Hong Ko" it's clearly faked.

Definitely a reprint HOWEVER the date window seems to have the correct bevel.
The first repro dials were the Ramon style with no bevel date windows and distinctive 6 o'clock text but I guess the forgers caught on and tried to fake the Hong Kong dials but failed as well running out of space for the last 2 letters.
As to your original question I would say original dial, stripped, and reprinted with the fake text.
Reminds me of the Miami Vice movie where they are down in whatever country and the streets are lined with molded Styrofoam from stolen electronics boxes as it was worldwide distribution hub.
I see thousands of original 6309 dials in the Philippines lined up, stripped, and sent on down to the puppy mill.

Hmm...I've never handled a dial out of the case but do originals have that much texture?
Any experience with the dial that mountapo sells? I've been thinking of cleaning up my 6309 for a while now.

And of course on an original dial the Water Resist text should be red / orange / yellow depending on the fade compared to the all white text on the repros.

I did own an all-original Hong Kong 6309 where the text had faded to grey. It was the real deal. That's part of why I thought this dial makeup was interesting.

I too have one that's all original where the resist text has faded to gray.
My vote is its a strip/reprint as well.

This is exactly why I hate aftermarket/fake stuff. There is so much cool custom stuff available, but with fake parts getting better and better, with all problems attached. It allready happened with Omega/Rolex etc. In the beginning it was clear but after a few years one can't see the difference between fake and legit.

I would love to look for a date stamp on the back of the dial. No faker would do that, but it likely wouldn't survive the strip.
