Seiko world timers 6217 and 6117

Well we might as well start gathering information to help others in the search and research.

Lots more to come and please add whatever factual evidence you have

These are catalog photos from 1970 and are all 6117's. Note that there are three case styles, the older 6117-60xx, the newer 6117-64xx and finally the 6117-80xx.

First the 6117-60xx this case style dates back to 1964, released in time for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and was an expensive watch at 12000yen.



The second is the 6117-64xx has two distinctive dials the classic dial similar to the first release dial with luminous outer tips on the major indices, the hour and second.

All of these World timers had an internal rotating bezel with either Major capital cities, in the case of the 6117-641x a 24hr ring and with the distinctive full luminous indices. .

The last of these world timers using the 6117 movement was the 6117-8000 which as you can see made do with an external rotating ring (bezel) and with the grey dial.

OK - good to have those catalog shots! That's more than I was able to get for the Dr. Seiko Database section on the World-Time/GMT type watches:

Please read through that whole thread to see what I came up with, but I don't consider myself an expert in that series of watches.

Then, there is the possibility of a 6119:

I'd only seen this one & could never confirm the dial-codes or calibre on the actual movement shots.

Finally, there is a 7009:

Just one world timer in my Arsenal. It's an all original 6117-6400 early model on it's original bracelet with the "error" on the city inner bezel.

A Quote from Cobrajet25: "GMT and London are actually in the same time zone, but watches made until about 1972 list them as being in different time zones. In '72-ish they changed it."

Great thread, great info., thank you all.

Perfect time as I just got my 6117-6400 and new NOS crystals and ready to tackle the clean-up resto.

I see the -6019 features curved end lugs and that great BOR. I have been dabbling in bracelets and straps for mine which of course has the (nearly) straight lugs.

Tony can't wait til the WSWTT arrives near NYC for a grand get together. I'll have mine ready to go by then for sure !

Ok, here's some more information on the 6217-7000 and 7010.

Some of these photos were taken from the web and i did not record who the owners were, if you are offended by your photo being used then contact me and i'll remove it.



Please note; the crowns are interchangeable between the 6217-7010 and the 6217-7000, many 6217-7000's are fitted with the incorrect crown from the 6217-7010 (crown 60W02N) as the correct crowns (crown 60W01N) were dropped by Seiko in 1968.

Correct crown for the 6217-700x, 60W01N.


Correct crown for the 6217-701X, 60W02N.



A correct 6217-7000, this is the early dial (1st) version with "made in Japan" only visible the dial code being hidden by the rotating ring but still with the olympic flame case back and correct crown. No luminous paint black 24hr hand for the white dial version, World time under the "Seiko", Diashock 17 Jewels and all hands chromed/stainless steel



Snap case back and correct bracelet hang tags etc, the box is not correct.



Second version of the 6217-700x dial with exposed dial code etc.



A correct 6217-701x, notice the crown sits snug to the case, luminous hour and minute hands with dots for the hr indices and exposed dial code.

Watch with blue felt on lower with white satin top and gold writing.



Inner sleeve contains instruction booklet, world maps showing time zones and warranty booklet.

I just brought this '64 6217-7000 today on it's original bracelet.



Been looking for a nice unmolested one for a while now and this came up on that auction site with a buy-it-now price I was happy to pay. Think I stole it

The crown adjusts them as on the inner bezels on the 6139 Pogues. The one you have coming has a nice tight inner bezel so it doesn't get knocked too easily and a NOS crystal for perfect clarity!

Nice, You'll love it. What was the $$ under $400?

Including delivery to the UK $240USD which I didn't see as mega bucks. Twas badly listed as in nice pics but no mention of the olympic torch on the case back blah blah blah. Said to be working, serviced* and keeping good time.

*serviced - I think that means it kept good time so they checked out the movement to make sure it still had one and then put the back cover back in place...

Great thread. I also just wanted to add that the 6217-7000 with 1964 Olympic tribute on back of case also came in a dark gray dial version. These are quite rare.
