Yesterday's plans were all scuppered before I even got up ! I had planned to get up early and take the WSWT for a walk to show off the beautiful countryside near my home. I woke up to torrential rain, so that went out the window. We were then going to Freeport, Braintree, about 20 miles away, for pizza and shopping. By shopping I mean me sitting in Costa with my youngest while Her Ladyship and my eldest do the shopping bit. Well the pizza was great Service was not. No tip for them !! Costa was full so we went to Starbucks as we had a £10 gift card. What a hole ! :puke: Grubby doesn't describe it. Then I was hit by a migraine that laid me out for the rest of the day, so no further adventures. Feeling better today and I have the day off tomorrow so will take it somewhere nice.

I have a few thousand genuine Seiko clasps to hand. When Dani is finished with the WT have it sent to me. I'll give it a quick service and plonk a new clasp on it at the same time and then forward it on to it's next adventure.

I've been out of the WSWT thread for some time now. Since it left Milwaukee the humor has been replaced with gorgeous photographs of the world's finest destinations. Oh wait, that was the idea..... Glad to see it got outfitted with an original "railroad track" bracelet. I think that is by far the best way to present it to the world's admiring throngs. When it gets to the New York City area (or anywhere else from Boston to Washington DC) it would be great to have a WS GTG. I am up for a Family Reunion.

Today's plans were again scuppered by that lovely British weather. Had planned to go in to town, visit the bank and take some photos of Colchester Castle. Got as far as the bank and Lower Castle Park before the rain came down (not conducive to photographing vintage watches !) So, here's a few I took this morning (sans watch, but I did have it on, honest ) 17th Century (I think) houses at Middleborough. Lovely old houses but not sure I'd want to live there as they have been flooded out several times in the last 20 years. A little further down the path leading to Middle Mill Middle Mill itself (very loud at this point as the water falls a few feet and is severely restricted by the weir). Sorry about the bird sh*t ! These are dotted everywhere about the town, which has a rich history. Colchester was a walled town at the top of a hill and had many gates, the ruins of some of which are still visible. This is Balkerne Gate (web photo) Next to it is a pub called The Hole in the Wall. Oh, and I mustn't forget the mutant swans on the boating lake HERE is a brief history of our town (I live about 5 miles outside the town itself). I'm hoping to get in to town at the weekend to show the castle and some of the beautiful old buildings.

Funny thing is how we Americans think our town is old because it was founded in the 1700's before the Revolution !!!!
Yours goes back a little bit farther - like to 43 AD !

Today was.............expensive. We've been searching for another Citroen C4 for a while as we have been impressed by Her Ladyship's car, and my little C3 was in need of a bit of work. One appeared at a local garage and we decided to go for it. So today I took the WSWT to say goodbye to my C3 And say hello to the new C4 It has more gadgets than anybody could possibly need and I'm impressed so far My phone battery was dying so couldn't get a good shot of the interior but it's like the Starship Enterprise compared to my old car.

A high school crush had one and more recently the character Patrick Jane in 'The Mentalist'... Cool cars that had hydraulic shocks if I remember correctly. In my mechanicing days, I had the 'pleasure' of maintaining a 1959 Deux Cheveaux for a customer. Talk about a rolling death trap! It looke exactly like this except it was a little weather worn by 1973 ...

Today I brought the WSWT in to work. It's the day of the Little Clacton Carnival, which has unfortunately got shorter every year. This year was one local company, two not very local Carnival Queens and fourtyleven majorettes/baton twirlers. As the baton twirlers were all little girls with short skirts (except the obligatory big fat one ) photos didn't seem appropriate ! It used to be quite big village event but Health and Safety regulations (fears of kids falling from lorry trailers etc) have killed it deader than a dead thing

Part two of today's WT travels: Dropped kids off at local supermarket as they were bag-packing for Guides and Brownies (my eldest is a Brownie leader) and Her Ladyship and I went in to town. She had some women's stuff to do (mainly taking back stuff she'd ordered and didn't want to keep ) while I wandered round the town for some more photos. Started off at the ruins of St Botolph's Priory (Fairly accurate HISTORY) Then over to Colchester Castle The link has far better pics than I could ever take and the outside hasn't changed much. The inside was refurbished a couple of years ago, and personally I don't think it was an improvement . I was uber disappointed to find that the beautiful floral displays around the castle had all been removed, awaiting replanting . They have some stunning displays. This : Usually looks like this: (web pic) And the front of the castle usually has a display of something unusual Last year was a really good one: I then took a stroll over to the Balkerne Gate again to see Jumbo, which was a Victorian built water tower, and is a big part of the Colchester skyline. There have been may plans to turn it into flats but it has a preservation order on it so hopefully it will stay as it is. I hope the WSWT has enjoyed it's trip so far. Back home now and looking forward to a nice roast beef dinner
