Going to be an Olde Gold night tonight.



Just ordered $900 in suspension parts for my mothers truck. And that isn't the worst part. I still have to put them on when they show up 

This better not end up like gutting the front end of my truck did

I guess I know what I'll be doing all Thanksgiving day weekend just like I had to blow my Jefferson Davis' Birthday weekend (or maybe most people call it Labor Day ) plans doing auto repair.

Time for an accuracy update.

I reset the watch 11/2 at 10AM after Daylight Saving time.

It is now 5 minutes 30 seconds fast.

That is 330 seconds.

330 / 14.5 days = +22.78 sec a day.

I have a sleep number handicap of +8 a day which happens no matter which watch it is after a service including Chronometer grade movements that the machine says are +2 max in any position.  When I get it back it is +8 (plus whatever the machine said) on my butt dyno.  Every time guaranteed like "clockwork"   So I always have to send them back for a fine tuning and then they are dead on every time.

So any who factoring in my sleep number that would make the World Traveler +14.78 sec a day.

PS:  Oh and yesterday a customer came in with a Pesi bezeled Seiko diver on a Jubilee bracelet (either 7548 or SKX009)  It was too busy to ask him about it.

PSS:  when taking yesterdays action shot in the shop my buddy Eric said "You still don't have that watch do you" since I sent him the link to play along at home since he knows exactly what I am dealing with and passing along here.

Not the stuff in cans. That only comes in kegs,and it gets delivered daily. I once saw 9 kegs on one motorbike... I'm assuming they were empty, but it wouldn't surprise me if people here attempt it full. If you want that you better get to a bia hoi early though, before they start watering it down.

Today's episode of the World Traveler: the Projects.

I have always said if you hear the name of your city or your street or your apartment complex or whatever in a rap song you live in the ghetto.

Milwaukee's own Coo Coo Cal. This video came out in 2001 and this is how I remember the Northside before they bulldozed all of the vacant houses.  See if you can spot the local attractions in the video.









Now for the real projects. 

I personally think they should have gone for the 20 story tall projects like Chicago and Patterson instead of spreading them out.  In Milwaukee along with your gubment welfare check, your free food stamp card, your free gas and electricity in winter which those of us who actually pay our bills have to subsidize, the city also hands out money for them to "rent" somewhere other than the housing projects so now they are in your neighborhood.

There are tons and tons off apartment complexes on the Northside and a few on the Southside that are just as bad if not worse than the projects.

The Southlawn projects.  Literally on the wrong side of the tracks (not that the other side is any better )

The Parklawn projects across the street from where we lived on 42nd place when really young.







The creek would flood the neighborhood every few years so they spent millions and millions of dollars making all of the fancy wall and bridges and burms.  Should have just let the Northside wash away if you ask me.



The police station is 2 blocks up from the Westlawn projects.  You think that would stop crime

I feel sorry for the homeowners who were on the wrong side of the buy line when the city came through and said we're buying out the block to throw some housing projects up.

Milwaukee Limo's are everywhere bringing the hood to your backyard.

More Westlawn.   Block after block after block of ghetto

Notice the Bike Lane sign on Silver Spring. I'm sorry but no richie white hippies are riding their bikes to the projects and the only Northsiders riding bikes are the dope boys riding around the back streets selling crack.

The houses across the streets on the other side of 60th street and the surrounding area are all 600 square foot houses built in the 1940's / 1950's and used as housing for the army base on Silver Spring.

Sherman Blvd only a few blocks South of Parklawn.  This was the main drag heading North and South on the Northside back 80 years or more.  Almost all of the houses are stone or brick and have stained glass windows and elaborate woodwork inside.  If you go 1 block East or West you are back in the bombed out warzone of the Northside.

Today's World Traveler adventure.

Unfortunately my paycheck showed up in my bank account yesterday so now I have to go to work today

Got out on the road and the freeway was at a standstill at 8:30



I heard some dumbass out on a motorcycle in 15 degree temps with icy roads sitting the corner at work and tried to get a shot.  You can sorta see him.



The Spee Dee Delivery (like Fed Ex) driver stopped in to show me his set of 50th Anniversary Kennedy halves he had just got in the mail.  I saw the prototype test strikes at the ANA show in Chicago in August and was not impressed.  This set looked pretty good so now I have to lay out $100 and order mine from the Mint.




Stopped at a bank on the way home to dump some coin.



Milwaukees own famous Kopps burgers and custard.  It was a little to cold to stop in for a cone.



If you want to know what the gas price should be the 2 stations at the corner of 76th and Lincoln in Stallis are the cheapest in town but I'll pay the extra 5¢ a gallon to buy it in a better area and not have to prepay.  This station also sells 106 octane race fule.  I might need to get some for my hot rod snowblower this year 

The Pawn store on the corner in Stallis.  It is now some national chain called Pawn America but in back in 2001and until a few years ago it was Moline Jewelry & Lincoln Loan and Scott was the owner and he was actually the only person I could find in town that would service a mechanical watch without having to send it offsite.

Lincoln is the main thoroughfare for the Barrio while North Ave is the equivilent for the Northsiders.



Another fine automobile in Stallis with a garbage bag or tape over their broken window.




I was going to stop at the beer store in Stallis but I couldn't find my wallet after work and they always card so I will have to hit up the beer store by my house.  Stopped at the beer store to get a 40 so that I might end up at beer zero tonight.  I go in and there is some white chick in there with a bottle of Coke and a 4 pack of OE king cans.  I tell myself wow you don't see that too often.  I go to the cooler which is now sort of working compared to last times adventure and she is standing with some dude and he has a bottle of Korbel on the counter.  The only person I know who drinks Korbel is Cooter.  I look up and Holy Shit it's Cooter.  He seemed to enough money to buy alcohol but never enough to pay me back the $10 he borrowed from me a month ago   He paid for my 40oz

Time to catch up from yesterdays adventures.

There was just to much ghetto to recap in one day.

If I ever feel any of my desk divers need some ocean cred I will send them off to someone who dives to wear on a dive to give them some ocean cred.  Likewise if anyone wants to give their watch some street cred mail it to me and I'll take it for a trip through the hood and see if I can't find some hustle to get it involved in

First let's start with today's don't get caught riding dirty tip of the day.  Safe stopping distance when sitting at a stop light.  I remember in drivers ed they said you should be able to see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you meeting the road over the top of your hood.  If you get rear ended you will hopefully not get sandwiched between 2 cars.  When riding with my brother he did this which was out of character for him.  I asked him why and he said if someone starts shooting at you you have enough room to pull out of line and hopefully drive off or if you see someone who needs a good shooting you can pull out and follow them. 

If you do the right thing for the wrong reason you are still half right.



Now back to the ghetto.  The Southside or Barrio (I always thought is was Varrio but the internet says it's Barrio )  In the old days you were likely to get robbed and shot on the Northside while on the Southside you would just get robbed and stabbed.  Well the Southside is getting more like the Northside and you're likely to get shot anywhere in the city thanks to the Milwaukee Limo bussing them everywhere to find you.

Milwaukee has been called one fo the most segregated cities in the US.  This is because of the many natural environmental barriers like the Menomonee Valley and Miller Valley as well as man made barriers like the Freeway and industrial areas and the many large cemetaries that span more than a mile square each keeping the ghettos and their residents at bay.  Unfortunately in West Milwaukee (caught between the barrio and Stallis) there used to many industries and grain silos which held the barrio in check.  Then for some reason someone decided to "revitalize" the area and tore them all down and now there are stores like Target and Pick N Save and Walmart and a Sonic and many other fast food restaurants.  I give it 10 years before it turns into the next Capitol Court Mall.






Maybe I don't get the culture but why is there a phuking taco truck on every corner?   And I'm not talking about the roach coach that has a route that it runs from business to business like you normally see in a large business area.  I'm talking a taco truck sitting on the side of the road at 1 PM with no business' or employed people around.  Maybe this is the new version of selling crack through the drive through of Taco Bell or McDonalds or where ever they work.  Be sure to ask for some "salt"

Ok, don't get me wrong I could go for some nice authentic taco stuff and someone my boss knows from the Mosque knows who does HVAC (or at least tries to cuz our shit at work never works) knew some dude who has a Taco truck and we had to fix his generator for him as a rush job and he promised us some Tacos but never delivered.  Then someone jacked his generator and he bought a new one from us.  Still no tacos.  Maybe my judgement of Taco trucks has now been tainted

I don't know what is is with people in the ghetto constantly needing furniture but here you go.  I guess maybe after you move every 3 months cuz the landlord kicks you out of your apartment after you trash it in a week and the eviction process takes 3 months you just throw your shitty furniture out on the curb or leave it in the house and move onto your next rent assistance free gubment handout apartment.

How bout some more Espanol.  It's bad enough when one of the requirements to become a US citizen is speaking the language which last time I checked was still English and every sign and product packaging is now bilingual but you go the the barrio and it is No Habla Ingles.



Cruising the back streets I thought I found myself a monthly $10 Seiko Challenge equivalent house but when I got home it turns out they want $35K for it   I guess the fact that it wasn't boarded up and the door hadn't been kicked in and all of the copper wiring and pipes stolen should have told me as much.  1800 sq /ft duplex.  Better act now before you miss the opportunity

Today's World Traveler adventure





OK so we all know now Bluemound Road which is one of the busiest in the area is closed down along with all of the North / South streets to try to bypass it.  Traffic is so bad that when you get a green light you can't cross the intersection because all of the cross traffic is still parked there only adding to the problem.  The only through street is Wisconsin Ave which is only 1 lane and not designed to handle the traffic hence the standstill.

I tried to catch WI ave at 84th street but after 4 minutes I made it 4 car lengths and made a u turn and tried to catch it off of 92nd street which every one else decided to do as well.  Oh look, I guess they don't care about your commute since they sit in their fancy office at the DOT in Madison and they say let's throw up a right turn only sign when everyone needs to go left   Everyone who wanted to turn left are now driving around in circles at County trying to get back out as if the traffic at County on a normal day isn't bad enough.







Luckily some guy in front of me was turning onto a side street once we made it past where the Bluemound bridge is gone and I told myself damn why didn't I think of that instead of waiting stopped in line for so long

Get to HWY 100 and Bluemound and find 4 lanes of traffic standing still in the intersection on a green light.



Better hope your new watch purchase is not sitting at the UPS terminal because it will take you 30 minutes to go 3 miles like I had to.





I'm not sure which is worse:  serial killers or mass shootings.  There must be something in the water because we have our fair share round here.

Azana spa across the street from Brookfield Square Mall where some psycho went and shot the place up killing his ex wife and a couple of employees and wounding more.  We made the CNN and all the cable news channels 24/7 live feed all day.  After sitting in standstill traffic for 30 minutes already there are 5 cars waiting to turn.  As you can see the light is set up for a turn arrow.  After 3 light cycles wth no green arrow and with only 1 car able to make it through I finally get through.  I turn around and my light is red and what do I see:  the phukers trying to turn where I just spent 5 minutes trying to make a turn get a green phuking arrow

The Brookfield Sheraton where some psycho shot and killed everyone in his cult as they were having a church meeting there.  I was working across the parking lot at Sears in the tool department that day and we had a straight line of sight over there.  First it was 2 ambulances and then it was 20 squad cars from every jurisdiction in the area surrounding the place.  There goes your safe neighborhood ratings as your per capita murder rate went from 0 to higher than  Milwaukee in under a minute.

Went to my emergency bank that didn't have a box for me last weekend and said they would order one for me.  Once again they didn't have a box and the teller said I was the second person in there today to ask for one

Ever see those videos online about low bridges and trucks constantly getting clipped by them?  This is our local clipper.



Underpants Parkway.  Before the days of the internet there was Underpants Parkway.  It was the trolling grounds for all of the homos.  There would be 50 to 100 cars parked on the side of the road on the South end with dudes in speedo's sun tanning and dudes coming out of the bushes and :puke:  Everyone in the area knew to stay out of there.



Thanks to the wonderful freeway construction destroying the area I don't even know my way around and I've lived here all my life (unfortunately)  It used to be you get off the freeway at Watertown Plank Road, go straight across to Swan Blvd and then catch 92nd street because it is one of the only few through streets.  Now there is this shit with ramps and roundabouts and office complexes with no way out.  This uses to be a field.



Mayfair Mall which is the new Northridge since it is on the 21 bus route up North Ave the main corridor from the Northside.  Remember when I said a mall used to be a mall and now they are villages?  Let's take away some more parking.





This area used to be some car lots and machine shops and the Roundy's Foods warehouse complex.  They tore the doors off of the loading docks of the Roundys warehouse and threw up a fancy facade and now it is Mayfair 2.





I guess once that gubment money starts flowing everyone shows up to make a quick buck and 15 years later it will be the next Capitol Court Mall.





Stopped at Burger King on the Tosa / Brookfield border for lunch where we used to skip out of high school and hit up for lunch every day.  There was a guy that worked there with a gheri curl that looked like Sleezy E from the Dre Day video.  No matter how far from the Northside you are if you go to a Burger King in Milwaukee County you get the same shitty service as if you were on the Northside. 



How about the world famous Briggs & Stratton engines and outdoor power equipment.





Wait you say.  That's not Briggs & Stratton.  You're right.  It USED TO BE until they tore half of it down because the real estate was worth more than their dwindling business and the fact that they moved all of their production to China.

Stopped at Chase to visit my friends and pickup my Monday haul.



The army base on the mid Northside down the block from the Westlawn projects.  They used to house POW's in an underground facility there.  My father told me stories about when he and his friends were teenagers and they would sneek into the tunnels there.







Miller Valley









There were a couple of tour groups going from building to building.  When I went to the Budweiser plant tour in Saint Louis it was me and my father and a guy and his wife.  The tour guide asked us where we were from and we said Milwaukee and the other guy said Green Bay It was kinda cool having your own personal tour and open bar at the end.







There was a crew of Hobo's working the off ramp and sometimes they would double team it and be on the East and West exits.  I hadn't seen them since it got cold but spotted this guy.  He is not one of the regulars and while you may want to truly help someone out in need there are just to many fakers out there.  If they would just be honest and say "Why lie I need a beer" I would gladly hook you up.

Ok a final round up of sights and adventures.

Some may be asking



Well anyone can go out and build a fancy new house or subdivision or drive 5 miles to find one but not everyone can find a ghetto.

It's like wabi.  You can fake aged lume, cracking dial paint, faded bezels but you can't go out and fake a ghetto

I checked and Bob is only 26 miles from the Boogy Down Bronx.  Maybe when he gets the World Traveler tomorrow he can recreate some of these old school East Coast rap videos for us

North 42nd place 1 block across the street from the Parklawn projects where we lived when I was 1-5 years old.  I don't remember which of the 2 blocks it was or which house





Must be a government building if it is new on the Northside.  The Library on Sherman and North and an empty building next it it that they must have thought some business would move into if they built it



Luvs liquor a staple in the community for decades used to be on the corner of 35th and North.  They tore it down and built some more guvment subsidized spread with another community outreach handout center.  Look another furniture store



Look another furniture store   One stop shopping.  Cash 4 gold, ghetto clothing store, pager store, and furniture.

Across the street is where Capitol Court Mall used to be til the Northsiders shoplifted the shit out of it and the anchor store Target and they had to shut it down.  So the gubment comes along and gives Walmart some money and Lowes some money after they level the block.  I guess the locals just kept on shoplifting the shit out of the out cropping of stores they built on the land as Lowes didn't even last 4 years.

You may be saying Milwaukee can't be all bad?

No it's not if you live in one of the outlying suburbs or on lake drive and don't have to get off of the freeway and have to take any side streets on the Northside or the Southside.

Better not let this guy who's riding dirty with no insurance hit your fancy Lexus or Mercedes.



Pabst brewery which is now condos.  Some of the original warehouses were converted and some are new construction.





You know what is keeping your fancy condo life safe from the Northside?  Nothing!  You think they can't take the bridge across the freeway and get you?



Remember the welfare office?  That is your landmark to find the bridge to cross to get them.



Unfortunately I live in a small strip of Milwaukee trapped between Stallis and Tosa and the police district is the same as the straight up Northside.  When seconds count the police are hours away.  Don't believe me?  How about a game.  Everyone call (414)9333-4444 which is the Milwaukee Police Departments non emergency line for things like someone is breaking into your car or taking a piss on your tree.  I GUARANTEE you will be on hold for AT LEAST 8 minutes before anyone answers and you would be lucky if any cop shows up at all.

Hell every year at least 4 people get shot and at least 1 murdered within 2 blocks of the police station.



A few years ago a woman was murdered in the gas station parking lot across the street when some Northsiders riding in a stolen minivan pulled over and tried to steal her purse and shoe wouldn't give it to them.  Up the block one winter a guy was out shoveling the snow in front of his house and was shot when some Northsiders were walking down the street and decided to rob him.



North Ave the main ghetto corridor and a green side with the letter N and the number 60.  Guess which is the wrong side of 60 to be on.  Th police used to camp out on all of the border streets but I think too many "community activists" from the Northside complained that they were being "unjustly" targeted when the crossed the border.



Our old store in Tosa that Cooter burned down 3 1/2 years ago.

He used to live in one of the apartments above the store and still couldn't make it to work downstairs on time.

His crack whore babies mama would come down and use the store phone to make long distance phone calls.

He even had some dude overdose up there during store business hours.

And guess what.  My boss could care less.

WE Energies tried to cut his power after non payment after 6 months but the meter was inside the apartment and he wouldn't let them in. So they had to rewire the power pole at the street to cut him off.  He then would bring a car battery into work and charge it everyday using the shop battery charger and electricity and then use one of those power inverters you plug into your cigarette lighter in your car to power his tv or lights or whatever.  Then he started renting rooms in his apartment to other crack heads to raise money for well you know.  After his meth lab blew up and burned the building down it cam out that he was running extension cords from his apartment into the basement and stealing electricity from the store because he got tired of carrying his battery upstairs everyday.

And guess what. My boss could care less.

After the new owners rehabbed it with some gubment handout money.



In an effort to keep the Northside at bay they are trying to turn North Ave into a restaurant bar area like Water Street or Old World 3rd Street.

The street used to be  a slalom course where every other block you have to swerve around the turn only lane and could only turn left every other block.  That is why the mayor who came up with that idea wasn't reelected the new election

Now they undid all of that and made the street look like some damn video game.  And if someone is making a left turn now that the slalom turn lanes are one traffic is stopped and backed up for blocks.





Stupid lake.  If it wasn't in the way I would have a whole lot more places to be able to ride to since I refuse to go through Chicago.
