One of my recent purchases was a 6139-6002. I don't like the aged lume look when it turns grey/black so I decided with this watch to have a go at reluming the dial batons. Removing the hands and dial allowed me to work on just the dial: with the dial off it was time to clean the old lume off. I used a 1.2mm screwdriver (a new blade fitted) and worked as carefully as I could to scrape the old lume off. Here's the first baton done: and then it was a case of working round the dial methodically, trying not to rush and not to slip. I used rodico to clean off the debris then it was relume time. I used this and Bergeon lume kit: and did this: here's the re-built watch: I very happy with this. I didn't cause any damage (well, none that I'm unhappy with) and I much prefer the look.

Looks good!
These batons lend themselves to reluming very well.

Very nice. There's just no loving that grey / green color that old degraded lume gets sometimes, like yours was. Much nicer after your work.

I picked up a OK'ish condition 6139-8029 last week. At the weekend I thought I'd have a go at a dial re-lume. Here's how it started: and here's me scraping the lume off the 12pm baton. nice and clean and all done, with no slip ups. this time I thought I'd experiment with painting the batons with a matte white paint before applying the lume

Fantastic result! I thought that the uneven surface of the batons actually gave the lume a chance to "grab" onto something, so painting the batons first wouldn't even cross my mind, but it looks amazing, and the coverage is first class! Congrats on a great, and brave, job.

Good job. I find the baton type of dial easier than the Pepsi/Pogue 6139's to do.

Great job are you going to use matt lume or gloss?

and then the lume I tried to apply the lume with a thick coat - the paint helped the lume to flow out to the very edges and when dry I might give them another coat I've now got the hands to do as they are looking very tired.

Truly amazing result! Factory quality or even better, I think there's no need for another coat looking at the pictures 7dfe79adc2f0

Can ask you chaps what you mix your lume powder with to get the best results please, those jobs are great Sir Alan and top job landing that bridge on your 7a Thanks Phil The carrier supplied in most kits is either twp part epoxy or two part polyester. I have also tried Varithane since it is water based and the cleanup is a lot easier as well as non toxic. The secret to application is getting the consistency just right and that only comes with practice. If the mix is too thin, you have to add more lume powder. If it's too thin then it is easily adjusted by adding more binder. You will know if the mix is too thick because it won't 'wick' out on hands or flat surfaces. If it's too thin then it will 'wick' fine but sag when applied to hands and potentially run when applied to a flat surface. Practice on a set of old hands and a dial that doesn't matter.

The first dial, is that considered blue? I have the same dial from 6139-6005 and swear its black, not blue, yet black 6139-600x don't exist, right? i also have two blue specimen and I can't even imagine the amount of fading that would have to happen (oh, and both the lighter blue ones had a pretty dark indicator ring, plus one is from 75 the other from 71, so it's not like a certain factory in a certain year made a lighter variation. Can anyone clear this up, please.
