Ok I am usually pretty good at deciding with what i decorate my wrist. After my horror caseback experience with the Sumo I'm starting to look towards an MM300 and trading the Sumo mod in. Anyone got both? Anyone done a MM mod to their Sumo and had an MM as well? So get over the Shanghai surprise and live with a pretty decent watch or make a balls to the wall MM purchase? Spare the niceties and tell it as it is:-)

I do not have both, but the MM is amazing. You can do a MM mod to the Sumo, but you are still missing out on the case/bezel. Make the switch, you won't regret it.

If the Sumo mod REALLY bugs you then you'll never be happy with it.
As for the MM . . . don't own one but would love to. I have held one in my hand and it is truly an amazing watch.

I've owned them both. I started with modifying a used Sumo into a mm300 homage/mod. Great for daily wear and if I trashed it I was only out a maximum of $500. That being said, I still wanted a true Marine Master 300 which I eventually purchased from Higuchi in January 2012. The MM300 was an awesome watch but I just couldn't ease myself into wearing it. they're expensive and found myself stressed out about damaging the watch due to the cost. watches should be worn and enjoyed not left sitting in a case.....A few days later I sold it to a co-worker. At the time, I felt more comfortable with wearing my modded Sumo.....I made the mistake of selling it late last year and have been considering the possibility of creating another if the chance presents itself. Get the MM300 ......... and wear it. Use it for what it is - a watch built to last a lifetime. I doubt it could be trashed to the point of being unusable :-)

Yeah, you gotta plan on wearing it. I have a desk job, so it's not likely that I'll do much damage at all.

I owned a Sumo briefly & they are a great watch , I replaced it with a SKZ-325K Stargate . The Stargate has a similar feel to the MM300 , I hope someday to add a MM300 to my small Seiko set .

I think it really has to be worn to appreciate everything about it. Fresh outta the box it was slick and shiny. I have been EDCing it for a bit, switching with my helson gauge, and I have grown to love a lot about it. I don't regret it for a minute. The turn of the crown is what really did it for me. I do own the SUMO modded by Randall for the USN but I always turn to the MM. You won't regret it.
