Just won a nice looking 6139-6001 proof/proof watch from August 70. Been looking for a nice blue dial proof for ages but they are so rare! and I rarely use that word!! Ain't she a peach! T

For the new Seiko addicts reading this thinking look at that old crap he's brought he must be crazy! Yep probably but this is not the reason I am a little nuts. It's a proof dial for starters. It also has a proof case back which is nice to see. The model is a less common seen 6139-600(1). In fact that's my first 6001 out of 20+ pogues. It's also unpolished and in good order with good original lume which is always a result. The bezel surrounds also nice. The inner bezel isn't all faded. The hands are correct and the seconds hand is the two piece version only found on the early watches. It all works as it should, ticks, resets to zero or 12! and the inner bezel rotates always a worthy question as the springs and gears are hard to get your paws on. No bracelet but I have a nice Stelux waiting for it Crazy Tone

now that I know what proof/proof means I appreciate this watch and can tell that this will be a nice restoration Some resist dial watches had proof case backs such as my 6138-0011 UFO/Yaughtsman does. Seiko had to change all their dials from 'proof' to resist due to US law but it would have cost a fortune to just bin the exisiting proof items so they were all used up but some resist dials have proof case backs and some proof dials have resist but I'm not so sure about those not being made up out of spare parts. The earliest 6139-6000 I have which is a yellow proof 'T' dial dates to 08/69 but I think some go back as early as 04/69. Those very early watches might well have been released early as a ploy by Seiko to have the first fully automatic chronograph in the world even though the official release date was set for August of 69. Earliest watches have proof/proof with a cutout above the winding crown and the narrow bracelet or a solid Stelux bracelet. They also have the 2 piece seconds hand as seen on my watch. I have proof/proof Yellow 'T' dial, a silver proof/proof although it's dial is well and truly beyond help and now a nice blue proof For a while some folk didn't think the silver proof watches existed. That is the rarest 17j Pogue you can find and I'd say followed by the blue proof. Tony

I was in the hunt for that - dropped out after my dollar threshold was passed. Dial and inner rotating ring look great, nice pick up - glad to know who picked it up!

A lovely acquisition Tony, it looks to be a nice honest example. It's always nice to find the early ones!
Coincidentally I also received a blue dialled 6139-6002 in the post today, not an early example like yours but it's a cracker and completes my little "set".

Ah nuts I was going to offer you my 1970 resist now I have the proof as I knew you were after an early version. Anyway not to worry as I can ask more for it now Glad you found a nice example anyway!

Tony The Proof silver dials are truly a rare breed but the JDM sports 5's speedtimers Proof's are equally rare and difficult to find in decent condition.
