Is that a good price for new? I think it's about as good as you'll get, but remember that if it's from Jomashop it probably won't have a full Omega warranty (5 years?) - just Jomashop's 2 year warranty. If you have an omega authorised dealer within easy driving distance you might get the same deal but with the AD experience and a full Omega warranty.

An interesting nod to history, but ridiculously overpriced for what it is. This article that came out after the pricing was revealed pretty much sums up how I feel about Omega charging $14k for a SS Speedmaster. It was a refreshingly honest take from the world of watch journalism, which is typically dominated by nut-huggers who gush over any and all new releases. I'm really not sure how Omega can expect to get that price for this 321 release when it's well over double the MSRP of the FOIS (First Omega in Space) numbered edition and doesn't really offer anything different other than a historically important... yet antiquated movement.

I have an Omega Speedmaster Professional 3570.50, manufactured in 2005, so not vintage. It's hands down the best watch I've ever laid hands on, and it's not even close. It does everything well, and has no flaws aside from the fact that the heselite crystal does scuff easily - but even that's part of it's charm. People worldwide recognize it, and I've had strangers comment on it. I run into another guy wearing one every once in a while, and we usually literally stop and talk about our speedys, and become friends. My wife actually bought it for me in Japan. I know it's not usually possible, but if you want one, shop for it in Tokyo. The selection of vintage Omegas there is unrivaled. Interestingly enough, I found way more selection there of vintage Omegas (pre-1980) than Seikos. The Japanese simply love their Speedmasters, and they take care of them. You'll find perfect 30yo or older speedys. That said, they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I was looking for something vintage, and there was plenty of selection, but the price floor was about $8000usd and up if my memory serves. I wanted to, but just couldn't justify the expense at that time. I still lust for a 1968-1978 model, and I look every time I go back to Japan, but I don't know if I could spend that kind of money. I've got kids to put through college yet.

Here is my classic moonwatch purchased Jan 2019, after years of lusting after one and watching prices continue to rise a deal came along and I bought my first new watch for many years.
Pros: Its a design classic and I personally like the manual wind that involves interaction with the watch. The box and kit that comes with it is the best ever presentation box I've ever seen.
Cons: It doesn't hack, which is surprising for a tool watch authorised by NASA. That messes with my WIS OCD. Besides trying on the bracelet I've only worn it on the NATO and it does sit high. Compared to my Seiko pilot watches (and the likes of Fortis and Sinn) the dial is less legible.
Summary: It gets very little wrist time but its a keeper and a heirloom to pass on to the next generation.
Finally: Have to say I rejected the first order due to some imperfections that had got past quality control somehow. The provided loupe helped me with that! A new watch was dispatched instantly with an apology.
Should you buy: Yes

I just can't let this one go, it's a must have at this point. So here is the question, do I buy secondhand new, of go for something more toward vintage? Which model? If you ask me, I'll simplify it this way Tim. If you want a Speedmaster, get the model that represents the Moonwatch. That can be any of various versions of past and present Speedmaster Professionals with the solid caseback that says "The First Watch Worn on the Moon." For all intents and purposes the most practical buys imho would be these Earlier (not too old to be 'vintage' expensive) 3570.50 = Hesalite crystal front with solid caseback 3572.50 = Hesalite crystal front with sapphire caseback Later (newer, pricier, looks exactly as above) 3750.50 = Hesalite crystal front with solid caseback 3753.50 = 'Sapphire sandwich' (front and back) There have been many minute changes to the case, hands and movement over the years but I think what's important is you get a Moonwatch! Having said that I would go for a Hesalite version as it is as close as you can get to the original Moonwatch. Getting something made later would mean a bit pricier but at least you have a newer model. Earlier models (in reference to those above that I mentioned) will be better priced but it would also depend on condition. If you go earlier than those above expect to pay higher prices, the older, the more ridiculous it gets. I am in no way an expert but I have done some homework in my Omega Speedmaster journey. Enough not to get burned, but not nearly enough as to know the differences in all of the versions throughout the decades. I have posted mine before on bracelet, here it is on a NATO strap - I got hooked on Speedmasters after this one and finally got my grail (birthyear) watch sometime later, a Speedmaster Mark II with the Racing dial - And to add something different and dressier, I found a nice example of this one, a 3575.30 - At this point I'd really advise you to stick to the list above. If you can buy brand new, specially with the kit it comes now (NATO, silver coin thing, loupe, huge commemorative box) then all the better imho. Just remember that for a 'true' Moonwatch, you need the solid caseback, Hesalite, handwind and the Speedmaster Professional designation of course. Happy hunting and I hope you eventually get the one thats for you. I have to agree with this advise, after searching for a pre owned vintage watch I came to understand that that there are so many variations that I couldn't possibly understand without a great deal of research and advice from someone more knowledgeable. I chose to play it safe buy new and buy the classic moonwatch.

He wore what the watch manufacturers paid for him to wear. Rolex, Omega, Seiko, whatever. There is a list somewhere.

Brosnan wore the quartz version Seamaster in the 1997 movie. Here is my midsized mechanical of that watch. I did have the regular size but traded it for this smaller version.
Here is the full sized quartz version..
Here is my Speedie Pro before I traded it for a SINN chrono 103 ti TESTAF

I decided to buy one from Collectors Time. He has one new and can get them on consignment. Comes with full kit and warranty. I am buying it for my 60th birthday. I have my name down for a Rolex Sub-date, but that's unlikely to happen and I really like the Speedy pro.
My wife said she would buy me a nice watch for my big event and I can think of nothing better. I'm hoping she will let me wear it now rather than wait for November.

The Speedmaster is an excellent significant birthday gift. What's more, it's hand winding so won't suffer from the lack of motion as you get older and slow down 😆 A Sub is also a great choice, but getting one if you're not a high spending customer or willing to pay a marked up grey market price is near impossible.

It seems Don Tan still has one or can get them in. He sources them from authorised dealers. Mine has a 5 year international warranty dated 31/7/2020. I bought it early August and he posted it to me. i have it put away for my 60th, which I hope I make in November, Here is a link to his site. He is very easy to deal with and he may be slightly negotiable on price. Cheers Peter Omega Speedy

Speedmaster is probably the most versatile watch which can look good with almost any colour/design strap. Love mine amd never thought about selling it

I've been hearing rumours of the hesalite speedy with the 1861 movement being discontinued as Omega preps to relaunch with the new Co ax movement seen in the latest snoopy.
Probably as good a time as any to pick one up as imo it's been undervalued for a while now.

Loved this watch for a long time. I was very lucky to get one for a significant birthday Perfect in terms of size and weight.
Also very easy to read.
Only drawback is if if don't like winding up manual watches. I enjoy this aspect too.

Here's a picture of the FOIS. Throwback hands, straight lugs, cleaner pre-"Professional" dial, clearer distinction between chrono hands and sweep hands. Gorgeous. Also waffled back and forth over getting one of these instead of the Moonwatch. They really should have used a Hesalite crystal, and put a Cal. 321 in it (to match Wally's watch) - it would have been epic. I preferred the FOIS because of the smaller diameter!
