For those of you who do not know, we are getting ready to start a group project. It will cover all steps in servicing your 6309 movement, more details can be found HERE. I'd like to start a list of interested members, hopefully we can get some decent participation. If you're in, please post your intentions in this thread. If you have questions, now is the time to ask...thank you. The project has started, have a look HERE!Participants

Hi Everybody,
I've volunteered to be one of the hammer and chisel guys who is going to lead the parade. I'm looking forward to going through this process with any and all who are interested. I'm not an expert but I have done a few of these remarkable machines and will help out with my 'follow along' presentations and I most definitely want everyone to ask questions along the way; no matter how dumb you might think they are. Every one has to start somewhere so even if you feel your question might seem stupid or too basic; there are going to be a couple of other folks who are probably wanting to ask the same thing. So fire out those questions and we will do our best to answer then until you are comfortable.
This is going to be a fun project so even if you don't participate with an actual watch; you can still be part of it by asking questions; offering advice or just throwing in some humour chinathumbsup.gif

Well now, since I am fanatically in love with my 6309's, I would love to sit in. I have just had all of my 6309's serviced by a local professional watchmaker so I don't have one laying around to use as a guinea pig. I would however love to participate. Do you have format for this project? Will you be posting step by step pictures or videos? I clicked on the link provided by Groundhog66 and noticed there were some items to be purchased. Do you by any chance have a link to vendors willing to sell those items?

I'm looking forward to this as my 6309 is losing 10 minutes over 24 hours. I'd like to know if this type of hand fitting tool is needed & if so, what size/s ? Or could I get away with some Rodico on the end of a parsnip? TIA.

The idea is to keep control of the hand as you install it. The Rodico helps you keep the hand perpendicular to the pinion(just like the tool), which is important.

Do you by any chance have a link to vendors willing to sell those items? As far as my participation goes; there will be step by step still photos. I may insert arrows and text to point out the features we are working on and commentary that will hopefully be good enough so that everyone will feel comfortable with what they are doing. If you just want to tinker with the movement; you really only need a decent screw driver and a set of tweezers. Parts cleaning can be done just as well in a small glass jar with cleaning fluid(I use old Gerber Baby food bottles). In a pinch and for learning purposes; expensive watch oil isn't really necessary...sewing machine oil will suffice(it's about the right viscosity but spreads rather than staying put like proper watch oil; but that is only a long term issue and shouldn't be used on any movement that is going back into service for the long haul). Most of the other items on the list are the sort of thing you can buy later if this project gets your juices rolling and you want to take the whole ting further.

My 3 second patience span will prevent me from participating but I guess I can crack out one of my many 6306 / 9 watches and give them a winding swirl for every post

I'm in!
Got everything in house, apart from the Möbius oil. Just gotta check the earlier thread, see which kind I should be getting.

The small vials will supply oil for a long time. The 9020 is fine but better suited to pocket watches and larger calibres. Either one will provide excellent lubrication and protection for years to come. With the heavier 9020; we just have to use it sparingly on palette and balance staff pivots.

Myself and others will have spares to get your piece working right. I am hoping that we will leave no sacrificial victim of this project behind. All will be revived and returned to happy healthy useful lives a063

I've got a couple compete 6309a movements in my spares. I'd be happy to send you one to tinker with for the group project. Let me know Shawn

I am definitely in. I Would love the chance to learn as much as I can! Do we have a list of the materials and tools required to complete the project properly?

I knew there was a reason for bringing my spares with when I moved to Vietnam. I'm pretty sure I have enough parts in the bin to get 2 or 3 movements together.

I'm in, but as a lurker/gadfly. My eyesight and hand/eye coordination have failed to the point that I doubt there would be a usable watch at the end.
