Watch discrimination and I hate that watch. Sure you can hate a brand because their quality is crap or they are marketed as watches for D-bags or whatever but what happens when you can't accept a certain model from your favorite watch manufacturer because something about bugs you everytime you see it? I own this one and I like this watch. I own(ed) this one and I also like this watch. I don't own this one and I DON'T like this watch for one main reason even though one of the 2 above also has the same drawback / issue / feature that make me hate this one. Just because the dial says Grand Seiko it won't be enough to cause me to put blinders on and like it. Now don't get me wrong if if someone gave me one to try out I may be persuaded to possibly change my mind While you / I may have several watches in your collection there are a select few that are perfect and meet all of your requirements for the perfect watch while there are others that come close but get shunned and put away or sold because of one character flaw.

Received as a gift. Can't get rid of it, would be noticed. Haven't worn it once since getting it in 1993. Case = 1.25" or 31.75mm way too small, looks funny on me. Just doesn't work.

The Marinemaster. I should, by all rights, love this watch model. Lord knows I tried my best when I owned one. But the dial text just drove me nuts. It still does. No harmony, no balance. One line at the top, and four at the bottom? Either "Automatic" or "Professional" needs to go. It bothered me so much that I sold it. I keep thinking about this watch model, and then remember the dial text. Stops me cold. Now, contrast this to the beautiful SUN019. Just look at the beautiful and harmonious proportions of the "X" logo and the pyramid stack of text. Look at the lovely slate frosted-finish grey of the sides of the markers and chapter ring, and how they match with silver hands. The black dial, machined shroud, and high-polish indentations on the rotating ring. All capped off with that central focus on that awesome dial text.

Get rid of that and automatic and professional can stay.

Hey! Is this a watch blog post or "Letters to the Editor" ??
LOL - you need to do a review of this kinetic angel for the WS archives!

In a perfect world, I'd take three total lines of text: SEIKO / Automatic / 300m If they did that, I'd buy one as soon as I could save up the money.

I am okay with all the lines of text, but I do agree they need to be spaced out better. "Automatic" needs to be right below "SEIKO" at the top of the dial, as it was done for, oh... FORTY FREAKIN' YEARS on every other Seiko, not to mention the watch this model was based on.

This hideous thing. Firstly two tone looks bad, secondly, I can't stand the melted plastic look and links. Who thought this look was a good idea? YUCK -

I call them "twisted-innards bracelets". Seiko made a few like that as well, and they also look wretched. That whole watch looks very mid-1990s. Yuck...

I hate "cut numerals", where a sub-dial cuts off part of one of the arabic hour markers. Too busy at work this morning to find some examples, but you know what I mean. And 99% of the time, the cut was easily avoidable by a slight move or decrease in size of the sub-dial, or by leaving the number off. For some reason it makes me angry!! - Thomas

Look at this dial, it's a book! LOL! Do they give you a library card with that watch? That is actually an interesting point about having automatic under the Seiko logo. Never really thought about it until now. For me it is BINARY WATCHES.... I don't want to have to get the sliderule out just to tell the time. I can understand if you want to be all Mr. Geek. Hell I'm a geek! But, why go for binary? Get a nice Casio calculator.

At least it is not off-center so many of theirs, but I much prefer these models to that one: - Thomas

It belongs in one of these hideous things, preferably on fire. These things lasted a year here...yuckkkk. It's the Australian variant of the Ford Taurus. It looks worse than the US one, which is hard to top. It really resembles a poorly made McDonald's happy meal toy.

I also don't really like the font for the Seiko logo on the SBDX001. It would have been better if it were a nice applied logo, with the more oval-shaped 'O' like the classic Seikos or the SBBN015/017.

So what aspect of this watch is it that repulses you so?

So what aspect of this watch is it that repulses you so? Finally someone who understood what I was trying to say The stubby GMT hand bothers me on the GS but it never bothered me on the Alpinist. I'm not sure why but everytime I look at that style GS it just turns me off.
